This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Final Saga.
The world of *One Piece* appears beautiful and exciting, but it hides a troubled past. It was built on a history of war, destruction, and the remnants of previous civilizations, as the author, Eiichiro Oda, has revealed. As the series moves towards the final, massive conflict, it’s becoming increasingly obvious that the world is about to descend into chaos again.
Based on the hints we’ve seen with Egghead, it looks like the series is building towards a major catastrophe. This destruction will likely be caused by the Celestial Dragons, particularly Imu and his Knights, and it seems this plan is going to happen.
Why The World Of One Piece Will Be Destroyed Again
Oda Has Set The Basis For Its Destruction

- The Ancient Weapons Still Exist
- The Sea Level Will Continue To Rise
The world of *One Piece* often features massive destruction and upheaval. While it may surprise some viewers, the story’s creator, Eiichiro Oda, has revealed that this world has actually been destroyed twice before in its history.

Evidence from the Elbaf arc suggests the first major catastrophe happened roughly 3000 years ago, during the time of the original Sun God Nika. This event drastically changed the world, seemingly wiping out all life. However, the world eventually recovered, but around 800 years ago, a second destruction occurred. Vegapunk revealed this was largely caused by the Ancient Weapons, which are still functioning today.
I’m watching everything unfold in the world of *One Piece*, and it feels like destruction is inevitable this time. The Ancient Weapons have already been unleashed, and we’re seeing the effects – the sea level has already risen a meter. It’s clear that if Imu gains control of more Motherflame, the world is going to face a series of devastating attacks, and I fear it will ultimately lead to its end.

Luffy And His Allies Will Have To Save The World
It All Comes Down to Beating Imu

When Imu destroys the world, it won’t be a total wipeout like past events. Thanks to Vegapunk’s technology, most people will be saved and able to move to the Sky Islands – Oda hinted at this during the Egghead arc. At the same time, Luffy, his crew, and the Revolutionary Army are almost certain to battle and defeat the World Government.

The world can only truly be rebuilt after the Celestial Dragons are defeated. It’s likely the Red Line will also be destroyed in the process. With Luffy defeating Imu, a new, more peaceful world order will emerge, just as the author, Oda, hinted at in his early notes.
As a child, I dreamed of creating a manga with an incredibly exciting climax. I wondered if I could actually pull it off! Now, after 25 years, we’re nearing the end of the Wano arc and everything is almost ready. You can jump into the story here if you like, because from this point on… it’s going to be the ONE PIECE! I’m going to reveal all the mysteries of this world through my artwork, and it’s going to be a thrilling ride! Buckle up, and please stick with me a little longer! – Eiichiro Oda, Author of One Piece, 2022
The next chapter of One Piece, chapter 1161, will be released in two weeks on a Sunday. In Japan, it will become available at midnight on Monday, September 28, 2025. Fans can read it for free on Manga Plus.
