One Piece: Oda Has Officially Revealed Shanks’ Goal

Shanks leads the Red Hair Pirates and is one of the Four Emperors, making him one of the most powerful pirates in the world of One Piece. He’s known for his incredible strength and is respected by both allies and rivals.

I’ve always noticed Shanks has a really relaxed attitude. Before the Wano arc, he never seemed interested in actually *going* for the One Piece, which made it hard to figure out what he was really after. It was tough to understand his true motivations.

A lot of fans think Blackbeard will be Luffy’s last enemy, but the clues actually suggest he’s more likely to be a rival to Shanks. The two have a long history together – they both trained under legendary pirates. Shanks was part of Gol D. Roger’s crew on the Oro Jackson, while Blackbeard sailed with Whitebeard on the Moby Dick. They first encountered each other during the climactic battle between Whitebeard and Roger, though it’s unknown if they actually fought at that time.

Blackbeard once scarred Shanks above his left eye, and Shanks has held a grudge ever since. It’s remarkable that Blackbeard was able to wound Shanks, considering Shanks was already a highly skilled and respected fighter – a rival to the world’s strongest swordsman, Dracule Mihawk, and likely having battled many other powerful opponents. It’s possible Shanks was simply taken by surprise.

Shanks probably understood Blackbeard’s dangerous character after being injured by him, and that’s why he’s now determined to defeat him.

Shanks might know about Blackbeard’s unique background, which could make their conflict even more intense. Their bounty amounts are also very similar, suggesting they’re evenly matched in power. While Blackbeard fights using the abilities of two Devil Fruits, Shanks primarily uses Haki. Considering all of this, it’s obvious that Shanks and Blackbeard are bitter enemies.

Scopper Gaban once called Shanks the ‘Child of Fate,’ suggesting he’s destined for great things. Currently, Shanks possesses three of the rare Road Poneglyphs, having taken two from Eustass Kid. It’s likely he obtained the third from Elbaf, as his strong connection with the Giants there would have made them share the information. Besides Shanks, only Blackbeard and Luffy have also managed to collect three Road Poneglyphs.

Shanks has openly declared his ambition to find the One Piece treasure, and right now, Blackbeard is the biggest obstacle to achieving that goal. This is largely because Shanks doesn’t consider Luffy to be a rival.

If Shanks is missing a Road Poneglyph, it’s probably the one located in Zou. Since Blackbeard already has one, Shanks could complete the full set by defeating him. But it won’t be easy – Blackbeard is incredibly clever and always plans ahead, making him a very difficult opponent to overcome.

Before Blackbeard and Shanks clash, Eiichiro Oda will probably reveal more about their backstories. We might find out how Blackbeard discovered the Yami Yami no Mi and understood its power. Since he was very young during the God Valley Incident, he couldn’t have gotten this information from Rocks D. Xebec.

There are still major mysteries surrounding Shanks and Gol D. Roger that Oda needs to address. Fans are wondering why Shanks is known as the ‘Child of Fate’ and why Roger specifically chose him to inherit the Straw Hat. It also seems strange that Shanks would pass on the hat if he intends to pursue the One Piece himself. Hopefully, Oda will soon reveal more about these two characters and clear up these questions.
