This post contains spoilers for Boruto.
I’ve been following the new Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga, which is essentially the second half of the Boruto series by Ikemoto. It started appearing in August 2023, and it’s quickly become popular again with manga fans. It’s great to see the series getting a lot of attention!
I’m watching *Boruto: Two Blue Vortex*, and while it’s not *bad*, it has some pretty significant flaws. These problems are so noticeable that, in my opinion, it just doesn’t measure up to Kishimoto’s original *Naruto*. I’ve even noticed a lot of fans are losing interest and stopping reading it.
Ichi The Witch Is The Next Manga That Fans Want To See Animated
Ichi the Witch Is On An Incredible Run

- Ichi the Witch won the Next Manga Award
- It has been outperforming Boruto
A recent Japanese poll revealed that ‘Ichi the Witch’ is the most desired manga to be adapted into an anime. The series, created by Osamu Nishi, has become incredibly popular in Weekly Shonen Jump, frequently appearing on the magazine’s front page – a sign of high regard from publisher Shueisha. Demand for the manga volumes has been so strong that Shueisha has had to reprint them multiple times, demonstrating the series’ exceptional popularity and potential, which the company clearly recognizes.

Ichi the Witch won a popularity poll, surpassing not only newer manga series but also Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. Given how much support Osamu Nishi and Shiro Usazaki’s manga has received, it’s likely an anime adaptation will be confirmed before the next Boruto anime is released. There’s a good chance the anime announcement will happen at Jump Festa 2026, since that’s where major announcements are typically made.
Besides ‘Ichi the Witch’, the manga ‘Kagurabachi’ is also hinting at an upcoming anime. The recent registration of a web domain for the series has excited fans, as this often happens right before an anime announcement. Many believe we might see the ‘Kagurabachi’ anime revealed at Jump Festa 2026.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Could Be Canceled
Boruto Manga Sales Have Been Below Average

I’ve been watching the sales figures for the *Boruto: Two Blue Vortex* manga, and unfortunately, they haven’t been great. The fifth volume just came out, and it didn’t sell as well as previous ones. It’s becoming pretty clear that the series is losing momentum and isn’t as popular as it once was. If sales don’t pick up, there’s a real chance the manga could be cancelled before it finishes its planned story. On the bright side, digital sales are still strong. A lot of fans are hoping to see physical sales improve, because that would significantly increase the chances of getting an anime adaptation announced.

Many fans are disappointed with how characters like Naruto and Sasuke are being portrayed in the manga. These two were central to the original series and beloved by readers for their compelling personalities. However, the current artist seems to be diminishing their strength and abilities, consistently showing them losing to newer villains and stripping away their most powerful skills. This makes the heroes feel unnecessarily weakened and humiliated. While the focus may be shifting to a new generation of characters, fans believe there are more respectful ways to handle established favorites.

Even if a new Boruto anime is announced, the animation studio needs to significantly improve its quality. While Studio Pierrot has generally done well with anime adaptations, Boruto has been a noticeable exception. The series suffered from too much unnecessary content and ultimately disappointed many viewers. There were even periods where the anime seemed to consist entirely of filler episodes for weeks on end.
If Studio Pierrot takes on the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex project, they need to be much more cautious and deliberate. They absolutely must have enough of the manga already available to adapt into animation, or they risk repeating the problems they faced when first adapting the Boruto series.
