As a devoted fan of indie games, I can’t help but feel a buzz of anticipation when it comes to ConcernedApe’s next project. Instead of a spiritual successor to the captivating Stardew Valley, he’s got something completely different brewing – Haunted Chocolatier! This tantalizing new venture has already set the gaming community abuzz with excitement and intrigue.
However, it seems that we’ll have to wait a while before sinking our teeth into this spooky confectionery adventure. Unfortunately, ConcernedApe himself has made it clear that Haunted Chocolatier won’t be gracing our screens anytime soon.
Instead of utilizing early access as a promotional strategy to generate excitement about its launch, like many independent game developers do, it appears that “Haunted Chocolatier” won’t follow this approach. Some might perceive this decision as a disadvantage for the title, but choosing not to use early access could potentially bring some unexpected advantages to “Haunted Chocolatier.
ConcernedApe Isn’t Interested in Early Access

It’s clear that ConcernedApe has made it plain as day that the upcoming game, Haunted Chocolatier, will not be released in early access, along with any other projects he’s working on. So, there’s no need for fans to guess or speculate about its early access status.
In a previous interview with MVC/Develop (now archived), an independent game developer touched upon a subject that many gamers might remember: the collaboration between ConcernedApe and Chucklefish, the indie publisher for the hit simulation game Stardew Valley. This partnership allowed both parties to move forward without launching the game in early access, which was popular among indie games at the time of Stardew Valley’s 2016 release. However, ConcernedApe preferred not to adhere to industry norms and instead deliver a complete product to players, as he felt the early access model was becoming less appealing to consumers due to a growing sense of dissatisfaction with it.
Given ConcernedApe’s firm stance on releasing fully polished games and his approach with Stardew Valley, it appears unlikely that the release strategy of Haunted Chocolatier will deviate from this pattern. While early access might suit certain indie games and creators, it’s evidently not the path ConcernedApe chooses to take.
No Early Access Means Less Competition for Haunted Chocolatier

The initial release phase of several popular indie games and their creators has been triumphant. However, this achievement often attracts imitators. For instance, both Phasmophobia and Lethal Company have witnessed a multitude of copies following their viral success in the early access stage. Likewise, Stardew Valley, though not the first indie farm simulator, inspired a surge of similar games due to its popularity. If Haunted Chocolatier, an upcoming indie action adventure RPG, were to launch in early access, it would likely encounter comparable competition given ConcernedApe’s past success.
When ConcernedApe officially launches Haunted Chocolatier, he will be able to present his game on his own accord, with a final product that he can take pride in. This move ensures that Haunted Chocolatier won’t face competition until its full release. By opting out of early access, ConcernedApe removes one less obstacle for himself and the game to overcome.
The game titled “Haunted Chocolatier” is currently in its initial stages, suggesting that it might take a while for ConcernedApe to perfect the quality content. As you might expect when comparing it with “Stardew Valley“, the similarities between these two games are likely to be noticeable upon release, and their development processes may also share some parallels. However, whether or not “Haunted Chocolatier ” becomes successful is yet to be seen, even if it releases in early access.
