Borderlands 4 includes 11 Ancient Crawlers, and completing each one rewards you with a unique vehicle skin and SDU Tokens. These Crawlers are hidden throughout the world of Kairos and are always a good source of free items. However, locating them and figuring out how to activate their release clamps can be challenging. This guide details the location of every Ancient Crawler in Borderlands 4, including where to find the necessary battery and how to use it to power up the clamps.

How to Activate Slugmetal Ditch in Borderlands 4

Slugmetal Ditch Location & Release Clamps

To find the Crawler Vehicle Part: Smiley in Slugmetal Ditch (located in The Fadefields’ Coastal Bonescape), you’ll first need a powered battery. Head east until you see a large pillar with ‘RIP’ on it – the battery is on a platform just before that. Once you have the battery, use a double jump and glide to reach the pillar. There, you’ll find release clamps next to some garbage. Activate these clamps, then look north for a grapple station. Use the grapple to pull yourself up, climb the wall to your left, and grapple to the top – Smiley will be there.

How to Activate The Roaming Pasture in Borderlands 4

The Roaming Pasture Location & Release Clamps

You can find the Roaming Pasture in the Hungering Plain area of The Fadefields. To find its battery, head east once you arrive. Once you have the battery, turn around and you can let go of it to climb the nearby scaffolding. Pull the battery up with you, then face the large Crawler and throw the battery up the ladder. After that, climb the ladder yourself. The battery needs to be placed on this first level, so continue climbing to the top and look for a grapple point. Using the grapple will pull you up, allowing you to claim the Awooooo! Vehicle Cosmetic.

How to Activate The Eminent Husk in Borderlands 4

You can find Eminent Husk in the southeastern part of Idolator’s Noose within The Fadefields. Once there, grab the battery from the back of a truck, then jump onto the roof and use a double jump to reach some scaffolding. From the scaffolding, jump to the release clamps located on top of the Crawler. After placing the battery in the clamps, follow the path upwards and to the left to climb the wall and reach the Afterparty Vehicle Cosmetic.

Pester’s Grotto can be a little tricky, so we’ve included a video to help you find your way!

To find Pester’s Grotto, go to the south area of Idolator’s Noose in The Fadefields. Once there, locate the battery station to the east and press the red button next to it to open an air chute. Carefully step into the chute – don’t jump – and glide forward, throwing the battery upwards so you can safely grapple to the platform. After that, go to the right of the Crawler and climb the ladder, remembering to bring the battery up with you. Climb the next ladder, again pulling the battery up, and then place it into the station. This will activate the station and reward you with the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee Vehicle Customization.

How to Activate The Great Work in Borderlands 4

The Great Work Location & Release Clamps

To find the Great Work Crawler, head to Cuspid Climb in the Terminus Range. Once inside, which is full of Order soldiers, look southwest and upwards for a grapple point. Follow the path to the right to another grapple point on the wall, then continue left to locate a battery and a ramp. Grab the battery and use the ramp to jump and glide onto the top of the Crawler. From there, find the red crate and use your grapple to open it, then pull the battery back up. Once you’ve crossed, drop the battery and climb the ladder. Next, pull the small platform in the center of the building towards you, and bring the battery back up again. Finally, climb onto the small platform against the wall and pull the battery to the release clamps to unlock the Future Proof Vehicle Cosmetic.

Stonewarden can be a tricky Crawler to finish, so we’ve made a video to help you see exactly how it’s done!

The Stonewarden Ancient Crawler is located in the northern part of Cuspid Climb. To reach it, go south and climb onto a building, then follow the path northeast, scaling some rocks. Use your grapple to swing over the rocks and land on a ramp, which you can jump and glide across to reach the Crawler. Look down and drop slightly to grab a battery from the broken vehicle below, then jump back up. From the red crate, jump to the higher platform with the battery and throw it upwards into the opening. Head south and climb the wall, then glide back to the next platform. Pull the battery up, and grapple a wall ledge to reveal a new platform. Jump up and insert the battery to unlock the Bestia Rossa Vehicle Cosmetic.

How to Activate Eureka Stane in Borderlands 4

Okay, so I was hunting for Eureka Stane in Terminus Range, specifically in The Low Leys. I faced that big crawler and looked southeast – there’s a grapple point above you on the right. I grappled up, walked across the crawler, and then spotted some scaffolding held up by a crane to the northwest. A little jump and glide got me onto the scaffolding, and that’s where the battery was! Once I grabbed it, I glided back to the crawler and slotted the battery into the opening near the Creep nest. After that, I followed the left side, climbed some ladders and did a bit of wall climbing to reach the top, and boom – I got the La Verdita Vehicle Cosmetic! It took a bit, but it was worth it.

How to Activate Forgotten Cornerstone in Borderlands 4

Okay, so I finally figured out how to get the Wellspring-Loaded Vehicle Cosmetic! You need to find the Forgotten Cornerstone Crawler in the north of Low Leys, it’s inside a cave. Once you’re there, go under the Crawler and carefully walk through the icicles to grab the battery. Then, go up the stairs, *through* the Crawler, to get back to the surface. This is the tricky part: you have to throw the battery up onto the raised ledge. After that, look to your right and climb the wall, then drop down to pick the battery up again. Next, head to the left to find a spot where you can mantle up, then go back to the right and climb the wall again. From there, it’s just a jump to the very top of the Crawler. Finally, pull the battery up one last time and put it in the hatch – and boom, you get the cosmetic! It took me a while, but it’s so worth it.

How to Activate The Belle in Borderlands 4

You can find The Belle on the south side of Lopside in Carcadia Burn. Once there, face west and grapple onto the Crawler from the right. Then, locate the battery on top of the Crawler and throw it upwards. This will allow you to climb the ladders, drop the battery down, and then pull it back up with you. After climbing both sets of ladders and getting the battery to the top, place it. Finally, look up to find a grapple point that will take you straight to the Never Say DIY Vehicle Cosmetic.

You can find Crumpled Lurch, a Crawler, in the Tonnage Peel area of Carcadia Burn. Once you’re there, locate a battery to the northwest, leaning against a building. After picking up the battery, go south and follow the ramp upwards. Jump across the platform to your left to install the battery. Climb up this platform and then head left to grapple across a ridge. Finally, climb the stairs to reach the top and claim the Frenzy Forever Vehicle Cosmetic.

How to Activate Wanton Tread in Borderlands 4

You can find Wanton’s Tread in the western part of the Ruined Sumplands in Carcadia Burn. When you get there, grab the battery from the scrap pile on the left. Next, follow the large arrow sign to enter the Crawler. Go up the stairs and continue to the left, then jump onto a red crate and across to the upper platform. Once you’re up there, place the battery on the wall. Continue along the right side to climb up, then take the left path for one final climb, and you’ll unlock the Prison Buddy Vehicle Cosmetic.
