Destiny 2 Reveals Next Arms Week Event and New Volatile Weapon Mods

Bungie has announced when the next Arms Week event will begin in Destiny 2, and shared details about the strong, but unpredictable, weapon modifications that will be available for a short period. Players are eager for fresh content, and with the Renegades expansion still some time off, Bungie hopes this limited-time Arms Week event will keep Destiny 2 fans engaged until then.

It’s clear that Destiny 2 is facing challenges right now, as the number of players is decreasing and prominent community members are moving on to other games. The release of The Edge of Fate was meant to be a fresh start, but issues with bugs, frustrating new features like the Portal, and a gameplay loop focused on a difficult power grind appear to have discouraged many players. Bungie is still trying to keep players engaged with temporary events, and Arms Week is coming back again.

Destiny 2 Arms Week Returns On October 7

In a recent blog post, Bungie announced that Arms Week is returning to Destiny 2 with the weekly reset on October 7th. This time around, the event will highlight Shotguns. For players who didn’t participate before, the first Arms Week began after the release of Edge of Fate. It featured the new Shooting Range in the Tower and put the spotlight on Hand Cannons for a week. Actually, the inaugural Destiny 2 Arms Week introduced a brand-new weapon – a Hand Cannon inspired by shotguns, called Phoneutria Fera – and it even included a unique weapon skin.

For a lot of players, the most exciting part of the event was the Volatile Weapon Mods. These were special, limited-time upgrades for legendary hand cannons – like the Phoneutria Fera we talked about earlier – that gave players access to strong abilities. We’re seeing something similar with this next Arms Week, as there will be three new volatile mods for players to try out.

  • Unstable Shells – Landing precision hits or most of a pellet spread will attach a delayed explosive to the target.
  • Illegal Trigger – Every shell fired increases rate of fire for a short time. Magazine size and reserves are increased beyond their normal limits.
  • Aftershock – Final blows create a wave of energy behind the target.

Although many players are currently feeling disappointed with Destiny 2, things might be looking up. Bungie recently announced Destiny 2: Renegades, an expansion created in partnership with LucasFilm and featuring content from Star Wars, and fans are excited about what they’ve seen. Renegades will add Star Wars-themed gear and weapons, and the new Lawless Frontier area appears to include randomized missions similar to those in Helldivers 2. The main hurdle for Bungie now, before Renegades is released, is keeping players engaged, which is becoming increasingly difficult each week.
