As a long-time PlayStation fan and virtual reality enthusiast, I’m thrilled to hear that the official PlayStation VR2 app is finally coming to Steam on August 7. This announcement has brought a renewed sense of excitement to the VR community, especially since Sony initially announced PC support for the PS VR2 back in March.

Starting August 7, the Steam app specifically designed for the Sony PlayStation VR 2 will be available. This means PlayStation VR 2 users can enjoy VR games through the widely-used Valve distribution platform. Previously, Sony mentioned that the PS VR2, priced at $549.99, would necessitate a unique adapter to operate it on personal computers.

As an avid gamer and huge fan of virtual reality, I’m thrilled about the upcoming release of the PS VR2 in February 2023. This new accessory for the PlayStation 5 boasts impressive hardware upgrades and advanced technologies that surpass its predecessor. Although the original PlayStation VR was acknowledged as a capable VR headset, sales didn’t meet expectations, leading Sony to temporarily halt production.

On Steam, the dedicated PlayStation VR2 App is set to debut on August 7. With this app, users can enjoy VR games and applications from Steam while wearing the PS VR2 headset. Additionally, it enables setting up the headset on a PC, updating firmware, and adjusting settings. A necessary accessory, the $59.99 PS VR2 PC adapter, will also be available starting August 7 to work with the app. This adapter is required alongside a PS VR2 headset, Sense controllers, and a DisplayPort 1.4-compatible cable.

Sony PlayStation VR2 Steam App Release

  • August 7, 2024

As a seasoned gamer with a background in both PC and console gaming, I find the system requirements for the PS VR2 App on Steam quite intriguing. Having gone through the process of upgrading my rig to run the latest games, I can appreciate the importance of having a powerful setup.

When using the PS VR2 headset on a PC instead of a PlayStation 5, certain advanced features like HDR, headset feedback, and eye tracking will not be accessible. However, Sony guarantees that the PS VR2 will provide at least 4K resolution, a 110-degree field of view, finger touch detection, and a see-through view on PC.

According to recent reports, Sony has significantly reduced the financial support for creating PS VR2 games, now focusing on just two projects for its upcoming headset instead of the initially planned multiple titles. Some of the previously announced games for the PlayStation VR2 were Alien: Rogue Incursion, Metal: Hellsinger VR, and Metro: Awakening.
