Minecraft Player Reaches Legendary Achievement After 14 Years

A devoted Minecraft player recently reached the game’s Far Lands after playing for 14 years. This impressive Minecraft accomplishment has also allowed the player to collect over $500,000 for various charities throughout the years.

Early releases of Minecraft had a glitch where the game’s automatically generated landscapes would become corrupted about 12.5 million blocks from where you first started playing. Luckily, this was so far away that most players never ran into it. This strange issue caused huge stone walls to appear at the edge of the map, and players nicknamed it the Far Lands. The developers later fixed this bug in newer versions of the game.

I’m still reeling from this! Minecraft YouTuber and streamer KurtJMac has *finally* finished his incredible journey to find the Far Lands! He was playing on an older version of the game to make sure the Far Lands were still there, and after traveling over 12.5 million blocks, he actually saw them! A clip from his stream on October 4th shows the amazing moment. It’s crazy to think this whole thing started way back in March 2011, when Minecraft was still in beta! He was only 40% of the way through this Minecraft challenge back in 2021, so he’s really pushed hard and made amazing progress these last few years. What a legend!

Since beginning his Far Lands or Bust challenge, KurtJMac has collected more than $500,000 for various charities. His dedication was even acknowledged by the Guinness World Records as the longest ever journey in Minecraft. It’s currently unknown what KurtJMac will do next, but most people would understand if he decided to take a break from Minecraft.

I love how open Minecraft is – it’s perfect for setting up your own challenges. The cool thing is, these challenges don’t give you any in-game rewards like new items or anything. The reward is just the satisfaction of completing them! It’s not for every player, I guess, but I think the fact that we get to make our own fun in Minecraft is a huge reason why the game has stayed so popular for so long. It’s really about the personal achievement, you know?
