This article contains spoilers from the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga.
The village of Konoha is facing turmoil in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, and people believe a strong leader – the Eighth Hokage – is essential to bring back stability and rebuild unity. Currently, Shikamaru is acting as Interim Hokage, but his position is threatened. Kobu and the Elders are challenging his leadership due to concerns about his choices and actions regarding Boruto.
I’ve been watching the situation unfold in Konoha, and it’s pretty tense. Boruto Uzumaki is still out there, and it turns out Shikamaru has secretly been working with him. The Elders and most of the other ninjas don’t know about this arrangement. Now, Shikamaru is getting a lot of heat for potentially putting Konoha at risk, especially with Naruto sealed away and these strange Humanoid God Trees starting to target strong ninjas all over the place. Honestly, it wouldn’t shock me if the real Eighth Hokage is appointed soon, effectively taking Shikamaru’s position in the Boruto manga.
Shikamaru Could Lose His Position Any Time Soon
Shikamaru Will Be Interrogated
- Shikamaru is under investigation for helping Boruto.
- Kobu and the Elders are coming for Shikamaru, suspecting him as a Konoha traitor.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 26 revealed that Shikamaru could be removed from his role as the temporary Hokage of Konoha. This is because he worked with Boruto Uzumaki, who, as fans know, has swapped places with Kawaki thanks to Eida’s all-powerful ability. Although Shikamaru tried to explain his actions, his explanation actually made the situation within the village even more strained.
There’s more to the situation: Boruto’s escape from Konoha has led investigators to believe Shikamaru might be involved, potentially helping him intentionally. When you consider his behavior during the mission in the Land of the Wind, his position as Interim Hokage is now very unstable. Kobu and the Elders are increasingly demanding that he be questioned to find out the truth about his connection with Boruto.
I’ve been watching the situation with Shikamaru closely, and Kashin Koji has warned him to be extremely careful. Even a small mistake could make him look like a traitor, and that would put everything at risk – not just his current job as Interim Hokage, but also his important part in Boruto’s mission to defeat Jura and the Shinju Clones. Kashin Koji made it clear that Shikamaru needs to stay involved with Konoha’s leadership, so he can quietly share and pass on vital information to Boruto.
Kawaki Uzumaki Could Be Appointed as Eighth Hokage
Naruto Uzumaki’s Successor May Be Kawaki
If Shikamaru steps down as the temporary leader of Konoha, Kobu and the village elders could choose Kawaki Uzumaki to become the official Eighth Hokage, following in the footsteps of the famous Naruto Uzumaki. They see him as a clear candidate – a strong, young ninja with the power and bravery needed to defend Konoha from extremely dangerous enemies, like those from the Otsutsuki clan. Although he’s still relatively new, he shows a lot of potential.
Now that Kawaki has traded places with Boruto, it makes sense for the Seventh Hokage’s son to follow in his father’s footsteps and become the Eighth Hokage. We’ve seen young leaders guide Konoha before, and the Elders have a pattern of putting their faith in potentially divisive choices – people whose actions and reasons were frequently questioned, like Danzo Shimura.
I’ll decide things from here on.—Kawaki
However, fans understand that Kawaki isn’t interested in Konoha’s politics, or the duties of being Hokage. His main goal has always been to protect Naruto, the person who rescued him and gave him a home. Even so, he might accept becoming Hokage if it meant he could gain more power and resources to keep Naruto safe.
Other Characters Who Could Become Eighth Hokage
From Kakashi to Sakura Haruno
While Kawaki is a strong contender to become the next Hokage, many fans believe Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno, Konohamaru Sarutobi, and even the previous Hokage, Kakashi Hatake, could also carry on Naruto’s legacy. However, Sasuke’s current absence makes it seem unlikely he’ll be able to return and take on such a challenging leadership position.
Sakura is currently focused on her duties at the village hospital. Kakashi Hatake, however, hasn’t appeared at all in the Boruto manga. Konohamaru Sarutobi is still working as a jonin, but it’s obvious he doesn’t yet have the strength or influence to earn the village’s respect. If Konoha needs to choose a new Hokage and doesn’t consider past leaders like Kakashi and Tsunade, the choice might come down to Kawaki or a new candidate favored by Kobu and the Elders.
