MW3 players want “gorgeous” cel-shaded Shipment to replace dull variant

As a long-time Call of Duty gamer, I’ve seen my fair share of map redesigns and updates over the years. But none have brought as much excitement to the community as the introduction of cel-shaded maps in Modern Warfare 3 Season 5. The cel-shaded version of Shipment, or Celship as it’s being called, is a game changer.

In Modern Warfare 3’s Season 5 update, new cel-shaded map designs were unveiled, including an enhanced version of the classic Shipment map, which has been met with great enthusiasm from gamers.

Cel-shading is an artistic technique that creates a comic-book effect by outlining the environment with dark lines and employing bold colors. Gamers who have played Borderlands are likely familiar with toon shading, which adds a lively and playful atmosphere to maps in Modern Warfare 3.

In addition to introducing an entirely new map named Yard, the developers chose to include cel-shaded variations of Rust (referred to as Toonoxide) and Shipment (referred to as Celship).

Daytime in Celship is like a vibrant and colorful alternative to the nighttime theme of Shipmas. Players are delighted by this shift, as evident in their lively discussions on Reddit.

“I personally find the latest Shipment map significantly improved over the old Shipmas map. The enhanced visibility makes it feel more spacious to me, and I absolutely adore it. One commenter even went so far as to call it ‘gorgeous’.”

Players are loving the new map, but unfortunately it’s only available in the Small Map Mosh Pit playlist for now. Fans are expressing their disappointment that they can’t enjoy it continuously like they could with Celship.

Some players have expressed a desire for Celship to take over from the current Shipment version. “I’d prefer to use this instead of shipments,” stated one player. Another echoed, “Absolutely. It’s time to swap out the existing one for this version.”

As a fan of the game, I’ve noticed that some players are really enjoying the newer Shipment map with its improved cel-shaded lighting. They argue that this enhancement makes it easier to spot enemies due to the increased visibility. However, there are a few among us who hold a different opinion. These players find the bright colors created by the cel-shading to be a hindrance instead. For them, the contrasting hues make it more challenging to distinguish their foes in the heat of battle.

Another person concurred, finding the maps overly cartoonish and difficult to navigate. However, most players appear to be appreciating the cel-shaded design, and the developers have announced plans to release additional maps with this style in the future. (Or: Another person agreed, expressing concerns that the maps seemed too cartoonish and visibility was challenging. Still, the majority of players seemed content with the cel-shaded look, and the developers revealed on their CoD Blog that they plan to create more such maps in the future.)

In Season 5 of Black Oops, new features will be introduced. After that, we’ll approach the last season leading up to Black Ops 6. Therefore, it remains to be seen which iteration of the Shipment map the developers will choose for us before the season concludes.
