2025 was an amazing year for anime, with a string of fantastic new shows. The year kicked off strong with popular titles like *Solo Leveling* and The Apothecary Diaries, both of which captivated audiences with their compelling stories.

Wow, what a year for anime! So many incredible shows came out, honestly some even surpassed my initial favorites. With new series dropping all the time, it’s getting *really* tough to decide which one deserves Anime of the Year. But if I had to put money on one right now, there’s definitely a leading candidate that’s looking strong.

The anime series *Lord of the Mysteries* premiered as part of Crunchyroll’s Fall 2025 season. It’s adapted from the popular web novel of the same name by Cuttlefish That Loves Diving, which has earned a strong 9.13 rating on MyAnimeList, placing it among the top titles in its genre. Many fans were initially unsure about the studio, as it wasn’t well-known in the anime world. But those concerns quickly disappeared – the studio delivered an incredible adaptation that rivaled even the most established names. The animation and action were stunning, keeping viewers completely captivated.

The first season of Lord of Mysteries has a slightly higher rating on MyAnimeList than the second season of Solo Leveling – 8.65 compared to 8.64. However, it’s important to note that Solo Leveling has received far more ratings, with over 420,000 users contributing, while Lord of Mysteries has only been rated by around 40,754. This big difference in ratings is likely due to the fact that Lord of Mysteries doesn’t have a Japanese dub.

As a big anime fan, I – and a lot of others – are used to hearing shows in Japanese. So when *Lord of Mysteries* first came out with Chinese audio, it was a bit of a surprise! And honestly, it was frustrating because the subtitles on Crunchyroll weren’t quite right at first. Thankfully, they did eventually fix it, but it took a few episodes for everything to line up properly.

One reason the series didn’t perform as well as expected was a lack of promotion from Crunchyroll. Many fans feel they could have done more to advertise it, and it’s hard to argue that the marketing wasn’t lackluster. Hopefully, future seasons will receive more robust promotion.

Despite facing challenges in gaining widespread recognition, *Solo Leveling* has quickly become a global hit, largely thanks to its popular anime adaptation by Aniplex. The show has broken numerous records on Crunchyroll in a very short time, and fans are eagerly awaiting news about a third season. The lack of an announcement following the end of Season 2 was disappointing for many, and currently, there’s no firm confirmation about its renewal. However, given the show’s immense success, Aniplex and A-1 Pictures are likely to capitalize on its popularity and announce more episodes in the near future.
