Atlus and Studio Zero are releasing a special ‘Guidebook Edition‘ of *Metaphor: ReFantazio* in early 2026. The original *Metaphor: ReFantazio* was a highly praised RPG in 2024, even earning a Game of the Year nomination, and this new edition will include extra content for fans to enjoy.
Atlus’s RPG, *Metaphor: ReFantazio*, launched in late 2024 and quickly became their best-selling game, moving a million copies on its first day and earning a 93 average score on OpenCritic. Many fans call it a fantasy version of *Persona*, and it’s been widely praised for its immersive world, engaging gameplay, and thought-provoking story, which tackles difficult issues like prejudice and racism. Atlus recently hinted at a new announcement for the game, and now it’s been confirmed that a new edition will be released next year, giving fans something to anticipate.
Metaphor: ReFantazio Digital Guidebook Edition Coming in Early 2026
To mark the one-year anniversary of the game, Atlus hosted a livestream on October 10th where they announced a special “Guidebook Edition” of *Metaphor: ReFantazio*, coming in early 2026. This digital bundle includes the full game, a digital art book, the game’s soundtrack, a helpful digital strategy guide, and two sets of downloadable costumes. The costumes are inspired by other Atlus games: one is based on *Shin Megami Tensei 5*, and the other on *Persona 5*. The digital strategy guide is taken from the complete physical guide published by Future Press and will provide a walkthrough of the game’s first section, along with tips for optimal gameplay. Players who already own the Atlus 35th Digital Anniversary edition of *Metaphor: ReFantazio* will receive the strategy guide for free.
Fans are enjoying the new version of the game, but many were disappointed that the recent livestream didn’t announce a version for the Switch 2. Rumors suggested Metaphor: ReFantazio would be revealed for Nintendo’s new console during the July Nintendo Direct, but Atlus confirmed that Persona 3 Reload is the game coming to the Switch 2 instead.
Considering how well-received the game has been, it’s not surprising that Atlus is thinking about making a sequel to *Metaphor: ReFantazio*. The developer surveyed players in August to gauge interest in a follow-up, and the game’s director has expressed a desire to eventually create a whole series based on *Metaphor: ReFantazio*.
