In the world of Shonen manga, *One Piece* is widely considered the very best. Fans consistently praise its writing, and it’s especially popular in Japan. *One Piece* is a cornerstone of Shonen Jump magazine and continues to be incredibly successful, consistently breaking sales records. In fact, *One Piece* is the best-selling manga of all time, and recently surpassed even the *Harry Potter* series in total books sold, making it one of the best-selling works by a single author.

While One Piece is incredibly popular, its sales aren’t always the highest. Like any long-running series, it experiences fluctuations, and other manga occasionally see boosts in popularity that let them temporarily outsell it. In September, Demon Slayer, which finished its run in 2020, once again exceeded One Piece in sales. Demon Slayer has become one of the best-selling manga of the year, largely thanks to the success of the first part of the Infinity Castle arc, and it continued to perform very well in September.

In September, *Demon Slayer* was the fourth best-selling manga in Japan, with 345,000 copies sold. It was outpaced only by three other titles – *The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity*, *Chainsaw Man*, and *Kaiju no. 8* – all of which had just released new volumes.

While incredibly popular in Japan, *One Piece* wasn’t among the best-selling manga recently, which is understandable. The most recent volume was released in July 2025, and fans are anticipating the next one. Because it’s been a while since the last release, it’s not surprising that *One Piece* isn’t currently topping the sales charts.

The Demon Slayer anime continues to be incredibly popular, especially with ongoing excitement around the Infinity Castle arc. This means the series is expected to perform very well this month, even though there’s no new manga being released. However, manga sales are gradually decreasing. While Demon Slayer was the best-selling manga in Japan in August, it fell to number four in September. Experts predict it will drop further in October, though it’s still likely to remain within the top ten.

The next chapter of One Piece, chapter 1163, will be released in two weeks, as usual on a Sunday. While it becomes available in Japan at midnight on Monday (JST), most international fans will be able to read it on October 26th. The official release date for chapter 1162 is October 26, 2025, and it will be available to read for free on Manga Plus.
