Magic: The Gathering’s Best Final Fantasy Scene Box Commander is Already Clear

The Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy collaboration is considered a major success for the 32-year-old game, thanks to strong sales and excitement from players. Even though some fans have mixed feelings about collaborations with other franchises, the Final Fantasy set proved popular with both longtime and new players. While the initial products launched months ago, Wizards of the Coast is releasing more themed items – including the Chocobo Bundle and Scene Boxes – on December 5th.

The Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy Chocobo Bundle is a great value for fans of either game, even though you’ll receive two random foil cards out of a possible twenty. Scene Boxes are also available, offering three Play Boosters and six unique cards that are particularly useful for Commander and Eternal players. There are four different Scene Boxes to choose from.

When you open a new Magic: The Gathering Commander deck, you can’t always use every card inside, because the rules require cards to match your commander’s colors. But every box does include at least one legendary creature that *can* be your commander, and the best one comes from the Final Fantasy XV Scene Box.

1 Out of 11 Magic: The Gathering New Final Fantasy Commanders is Already OP

While some of the Final Fantasy Scene Boxes only include a single powerful creature suitable for leading a deck, many others offer several choices. Ultimately, 11 new Final Fantasy Magic: The Gathering cards qualify as commanders, and they are:

  • Garland, Royal Kidnapper
  • The Destined Warrior
  • The Destined White Mage
  • The Destined Thief
  • The Destined Black Mage
  • Edea, Possessed Sorcerer
  • Rinoa, Angel Wing
  • Seifer, Balamb Rival
  • Squall, Gunblade Duelist
  • Amarant Coral
  • Noctis, Heir Apparent

Noctis, the main character from *Final Fantasy XV*, is currently the most powerful card in the set. While other cards are good, Noctis stands out because he can quickly move during battle and boost the abilities of similar cards. A good example is Kaito, Bane of Nightmares, a popular card that lets you send an attacking creature back to your opponent’s hand and replace it with a copy of Kaito.

Noctis, the future king, becomes incredibly strong when he wields the Buster Sword, Cloud’s famous weapon from Final Fantasy VII.

December 5 Could Be The End of an Era For Esper Commander Decks in MTG

The powerful Jin Sakai, known as the Ghost of Tsushima and available through Magic: The Gathering’s Secret Lair, can grant Noctis the ability to become unblockable. This opens up exciting combo possibilities for Voltron decks that focus on equipment, especially when using Esper colors. It also enhances strategies involving blinking effects, like those created with cards such as Ghostly Flicker or Ephemerate.

Final Fantasy decks in MTG have a lot of good equipment options. For example, Blue Mage’s Crane lets you cast spells from your opponent’s graveyard for a low mana cost. Colossus Hammer can massively boost Noctis’s strength without costing any mana when combined with his blink ability, and Genji Glove gives him double strike and an extra combat phase. These are just a few ways the deck can be really powerful with careful building, and they highlight how strong the new Scene Box Noctis card is.
