As a seasoned samurai who has traversed the mystical island of Tsushima, I can confidently say that these three locations are not to be missed in this captivating open-world game, Ghost of Tsushima.
Due to the PC version release of “Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut”, individuals without a Sony console can now enjoy this stunning game. The tale of Jin Sakai will lead players through the three districts of Tsushima island, however, to fully appreciate the game, it’s essential to explore the island on horseback. This is because there are numerous secrets, quests, charms, locations, and power-ups that enrich the gaming experience but aren’t crucial to the main storyline.
It’s no coincidence that Sucker Punch added a photo mode to this game; the graphics are exceptional across the board, but they truly excel in those hard-to-find, often overlooked secret spots that players usually don’t visit while completing the main missions.
8 Grove In Ruins Of Old Yarikawa
Life Inside Ruins
As players venture towards Yarikawa’s Ruins, they’ll find clues directing them to the grove long before they arrive. This verdant oasis, amidst a sea of decaying structures shrouded by thick foliage, is hard to miss due to its vibrant, floral floor teeming with green fireflies. The grove boasts statues at both entrances and exits, and under the moonlight, it emanates an ethereal glow that suggests this spot carries significance.

In this ancient grove within Old Yarikawa, situated in Toyotama, the epic tale “The Spirit of Yarikawa’s Vengeance” reaches its end. Following a climactic confrontation with the Spirit of Yarikawa, players will acquire the Dance of Wrath skill.
7 Yuriko’s Grave
Farewell, Old Guardian
Yuriko’s grave offers a sweeping view of the southern Toyotama region, extending all the way to Izuhara. It seems there is no more fitting resting spot for someone as close to Jin as Yuriko was. In her dying moments, Yuriko recalled her past with Jin and their shared history with Kazumasa Sakai, Jin’s father. However, their conversation was cut short as she sadly passed away.
Jin buries her with his own hands, and when he bows in front of her grave, a gust of wind raises a flurry of lilac flower petals, making this location even more surreal.
How To Reach This Location
In the thrilling main quest “Ghosts from the Past,” I, the gamer, find myself reuniting with my former caretaker, Yuriko. Following our shared journey, there are additional tasks she’s entrusted to me, her side quests. The culmination of these missions is “The Art of Seeing.” At its conclusion, Yuriko takes her last breath, and I, moved by emotion, bury her on a cliff southeast of the Turtle Rock Shrine in the Toyotama region.

Situated on the banks of a river in the north-eastern part of the Izuhara region lies the quaint fishing village called Kechi. However, this village is under control of the Mongol forces, so before reaching the altar, Jin must drive out and liberate it from their occupation.
5 Kijo Isle

On Kijo Isle, players encounter Otosuke, who’s not professionally trained in combat or skilled with a sword, yet he’s vigorously practicing tameshigiri – a cut-and-thrust exercise – driven by raw emotions: hatred and deep-seated paternal feelings.
On Kijo Island, Jin won’t discover anything significant other than some items to gather and Otosuke, who assigns him a side mission named “Lost at Sea” to save his daughter from distant Mongol ships. Despite its size, the island holds a unique, secluded charm.
How To Reach This Location
In the south-western part of Izuhara lies Kijo Island, easily accessible by a brief swim from the map. Players can get there with minimal effort.
4 Cave In The Omi Monastery
Battle In Candlelight
Among the enchanting locales in the game I adore, none compare to the serene charm of Omi Monastery. Tucked away within its tranquil walls lies a humble cave, home to a colossal monk statue and a floor submerged by water, aglow with flickering candles scattered throughout its surface.
During gameplay, players have the freedom to explore the cave whenever they wish. However, it’s during the concluding phase of the “Six Blades of Kojiro” side mission that they are guided towards it. The final confrontation with the last straw hat occurs within this breathtaking cave, offering a visually stunning battle scene.
How To Reach This Location
The Omi Monastery lies in the western part of Mount Omi and Omi Lake, within the Toyotama region. To reach the cave, follow the trail beside the mountain wall adorned with tiny cascades, then navigate through a narrow gap in the stone.
3 Samurai Holdings Near Komoda Beach

In the initial cinematic sequence at the start of a fresh game in Ghost of Tsushima, the action unfolds within these estates. Jin then journeys towards Komoda Beach, where the samurai of Tsushima, under the command of Lord Shimura, experienced a significant defeat at the hands of the Mongols, led by Khotun Khan.
In the past, these strongholds were bustling with samurai flags, torches, weapons, and multitudes of samurai warriors. However, when Jin revisits this place during the game’s progression, he finds them deserted and strewn with fallen samurai, serving as a chilling reminder of the immense danger posed by the Mongols.

Head straight towards Kiyomori’s Landing, then veer south-east from Saicho’s Point to get to the Samurai Fortresses during the Battle at Komoda Beach.
2 Tadayori’s Rest

Without doubt, one of the most tranquil spots in Tsushima is known as Tadayori’s Rest – a place that honors the renowned archer, Tadayori, and serves as his final resting place. You can reach this peaceful sanctuary either by setting out directly or by following a path marked by Violet Flowers during the mythical story of “The Legend of Tadayori”.
As a devoted fan, when I journey through the mythic narrative and arrive at Tadayori’s Rest, I’m faced with an unavoidable battle against Kaede, the last known relative of Tadayori. This fierce warrior is determined to safeguard her ancestor’s armor, an exceptional piece renowned for its power among all game armors, from those who seek to misuse it for selfish purposes.
How To Reach This Location
Players can find Tadayori’s rest in Ariake Prefecture in the Izuhara region of Tsushima.
1 Desecrated Inari Shrine
May The Slain Find Peace
On Tsushima Island, you’ll find numerous Inari Shrines, also known as Fox Dens. These shrines bestow small magical abilities on Jin after they are completed. The particular shrine in Toyotama was held in disdain by the Mongols; when a player discovers it, the shrine is ruined and slain foxes are found nearby.
As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in various virtual worlds, I must say that the “Peace for the Divine” side quest in Tsushima Island offers an engaging and emotionally resonant experience. The narrative unfolds as one embarks on a journey to seek justice for a desecrated shrine, led by a cunning fox. This quest serves as a poignant reminder of the destruction wrought by the Mongol invaders, a recurring theme in many games set during historical conflicts. The ability to choose the level of hostility towards the Mongols adds a layer of complexity and player agency that makes this side quest particularly captivating. Overall, I believe it’s an excellent addition to the game, enriching the narrative and offering players a unique and immersive experience.

From the ancient Toyotama Hills in the Toyotama area, proceed towards the south. You’ll recognize the ruined Inari Shrine by the plume of smoke billowing up from its site.
