Players quickly completed the latest challenge in Borderlands 4, so Gearbox is adding a new cosmetic outfit for the character Vex. This continues the game’s pattern of giving away free items – like character skins and Golden Keys – to Borderlands 4 players.
For a while, Borderlands 4 has mainly received smaller updates like Golden Keys. But starting later this month with the Horrors of Kairos event, Gearbox will begin releasing bigger content packs. The first of these is a story-driven update called How Rush Saved Mercenary Day, launching in November, and it will include new gear, cosmetic items, and a short campaign. As a little something extra, Gearbox is also giving players another free skin to unlock right now.

Recently, Gearbox has been giving Borderlands 4 players Community Challenges – usually asking them to repeat a specific task many times within the game. Last weekend’s challenge, called Death 4 All, required Vex players to destroy 1.8 million Drill Sites on Kairos. The community quickly stepped up, completing an impressive 2,333,013 drill sites as Vex and unlocking a new reward in the process.
Just like in recent weeks, players can get a free cosmetic skin by using the SHiFT code provided. This week’s challenge highlighted Vex, and the new skin, called “Mass Market Appeal,” is inspired by her backstory from the *Borderlands 4* short film, Purple Friday. While the trailer showed Vex in work clothes, the skin keeps her classic vault hunter look, but uses the main yellow and purple colors from the short.
Gearbox, the developers of Borderlands 4, have announced an upcoming update focused on rebalancing the game. The first major update improved weaker character builds, and this next one will address a particularly powerful build called ‘Infinite Bleed,’ which is currently considered too strong due to some unexpected game mechanics. Players can expect these changes to arrive on October 16th.
