Pokémon Legends: Z-A introduces a brand new set of starter Pokémon, but it also brings back some favorites! You’ll find the classic Kanto starters alongside the original Kalos starters, giving you plenty of strong Pokémon to choose from and build your team.

How to Get Charmander in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you can receive Charmander as a gift relatively early in the game, but getting it will require making a difficult decision.

So, after I spent a good amount of time exploring Lumiose City, tackling all the challenges and finishing up Mable’s research tasks, she finally asked me to come back to her office. It felt great to finally get that invite!

When you meet her, she’ll explain that she’s responsible for three Pokémon: Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle. She’s looking for skilled trainers to adopt one of these Kanto starters, giving you another chance to pick a starting Pokémon after you already chose between Chikorita, Totodile, and Tepig at the beginning of your adventure.

You’ll only get to choose one of these three starter Pokémon, and it’s important to know that all Pokémon received as gifts in Legends: Z-A can’t be Shiny. But don’t worry – if you want a Shiny Charmander, or if you picked Bulbasaur or Squirtle instead, you’ll be able to find more Charmander later in the game.

Where to Catch Charmander in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Okay, so I just found out you can actually catch Charmander in Legends: Z-A! It’s in Wild Zone 20, which is in Lumiose City, but you won’t be able to get there until you’re pretty far into the game. It’s awesome to know it’s possible though!

Wild Zone 20 becomes available after you finish the main story in Legends: Z-A, specifically after completing Main Mission 38: The Future of Lumiose City. It’s one of the extra missions you can do after the credits roll.

The way you unlock Charmander and the other Kanto starters you didn’t choose at the beginning is similar to how it worked in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. In that game, the starter Pokémon you didn’t pick appeared in special events called Space Time Distortions.

Since it can take a long time to find a Charmander unless you choose it as your starting Pokémon, carefully consider your initial selection.
