How to Get Chespin in Pokémon Legends: Z-A—Chespin Location, Explained

Chespin is back in Pokémon Legends: Z-A! It won’t be offered as a starting Pokémon this time, but you can add it to your team if you know how. We’ve got a guide with all the details on recruiting it.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A introduces three new starter Pokémon, but players can also find the original starters from the Kalos region – similar to how the Sinnoh starters appeared in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Finding these Kalos starters will be more challenging, though.

How to Get Chespin in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

I’m so excited to start my journey in Pokémon Legends: Z-A! I heard that, just like the other Kalos starters, you can get Chespin pretty early on by finishing a side quest. It’s a free Pokémon, which is awesome, and a great way to kick things off!

In Side Mission 7, a spirited Chespin asks for your help with a grumpy fellow Chespin who’s trying to start trouble with a taxi. You’ll need to win three battles in a row to soothe its anger. If you succeed, this Chespin will join your team, though it’s important to know that this particular Chespin can’t be found in its shiny form.

You can begin the Side Mission after finishing the first three tutorial side missions and visiting Emma’s office. To start it, go to a taxi rank in Academie Etoile, close to Wild Zone 3, and talk to Axi, who’s waiting by his taxi.

Chespin can’t be found as a Shiny Pokémon right now, but you’ll have more chances to catch a Shiny Chespin later on in the game.

Where to Catch Chespin in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

You can catch Chespin in Pokémon Legends: Z-A after unlocking Wild Zone 17, but you’ll only find one at a time.

You can unlock Wild Zone 17 when you reach Rank C in Z-A Royale. During the day, you’ll find Chespin near a tree in the lower section of the zone, but it doesn’t always appear, so you might need to look several times.

Chespin is different from Fennekin – while Fennekin is timid and runs away when seen, Chespin is aggressive and will attack on sight. Be ready to battle and catch it quickly!
