The Master Ball, a legendary Poké Ball appearing in nearly every Pokémon game, is back in Pokémon Legends Z-A. It’s always incredibly rare, and getting one in Pokémon Legends Z-A will likely take a significant amount of time and effort.
There’s likely only one Master Ball in *Pokémon Legends Z-A*, so you’ll want to choose carefully which Pokémon to use it on. This guide will show you how to obtain the Master Ball and give you some advice to help you decide how to best use it.
What Does The Master Ball Do in Pokémon Legends Z-A?
As with past *Pokémon* games, the Master Ball is the only Poké Ball that always successfully catches a Pokémon – it completely bypasses any chance of the Pokémon resisting capture or escaping. It’s the most powerful Poké Ball in *Pokémon Legends Z-A*, and in every *Pokémon* game it’s featured in, but it’s also the hardest to find.
It’s best to save the Master Ball for a legendary Pokémon that’s really hard to catch. If the Master Ball you get from Mabel’s Research is the only one in *Pokémon Legends Z-A*, you’ll only have one guaranteed catch for the entire game, so make it count!
How to Get A Master Ball in Pokémon Legends Z-A

In Pokémon Legends Z-A, you can earn the Master Ball by nearly completing all of Mabel’s Research Rewards. You’ll first encounter Mabel during Mission 3, after finishing her initial request to catch five Pokémon.
Mabel is excited to introduce the Mabel’s Research Rewards program! As you complete Research Tasks for her – found in the main party menu – and raise your Research Level, you’ll earn great rewards like TMs, special items, and even a Master Ball!

In Pokémon Legends Z-A, you can earn a Master Ball by reaching Research Level 49, which is just before the final rank. After you hit Level 49, simply speak with Mabel to claim your prize!
Getting to the final rank requires completing a lot of Research Tasks. However, if you focus on completing these tasks while exploring Lumiose City, you’ll earn a Master Ball more quickly.
Currently, this is the only way players have discovered to obtain Master Balls in *Pokémon Legends Z-A*. We’ll update this guide as we explore more of Lumiose City, and if we find any other methods for getting a Master Ball in *Pokémon Legends Z-A*, we’ll be sure to add them.
