ARC Raiders Just Became Steam’s Most Popular Extraction Shooter and It’s Not Even Close

Players are currently testing out ARC Raiders in a ‘server slam’ event, getting a first look at the game two weeks before its official release. This is the final chance to play for free before the October 30th launch, and early reactions have been very positive.

ARC Raiders has quickly become incredibly popular, nearly reaching 200,000 players at the same time on Steam. This makes it the most-played game of its type – an ‘extraction shooter‘ – currently available on the platform.

ARC Raiders Could Become the Top-Rated Extraction Title

Embark Studios, known for The Finals, has created ARC Raiders, a third-person shooter where you try to survive and complete missions in a world overrun by robots. You play as a scavenger, fighting to earn a living while avoiding being killed.

Early test phases of ARC Raiders went very well, so Embark Studios ran a large-scale server test to ensure everything is ready for launch. The results were extremely promising.

The game reached a record high of nearly 190,000 players on Steam as server issues caused problems, quickly becoming more popular than any other game of its type ever released on the platform.

To put that into perspective, here are some top numbers:

  • Arena Breakout: Infinite – 66,007
  • The Cycle: Frontier – 40,854
  • Gray Zone Warfare – 72,548
  • Dark and Darker – 57,164
  • Escape from Duckov – 61,066

Escape from Tarkov, a very popular “extraction shooter” game, will be available on Steam starting November 15th. It will be interesting to see how well it does compared to another similar game, ARC Raiders. While over half a million players have already shown interest by adding it to their Steam wishlists, that currently ranks it 67th in terms of wishlist popularity on the platform.

ARC Raiders is in fourth place.
