How to Unlock Fossil Pokemon in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Players can revive Fossil Pokémon in Pokémon Legends Z-A, and many are eager to choose from the three currently available prehistoric species. However, you won’t be able to revive them immediately. You’ll first need to meet certain requirements and find the necessary genetic material within Lumiose City to bring these ancient creatures back to life.

Okay, so I’m putting together a guide to help you guys restore Fossils in *Pokemon Legends Z-A*. I’ll walk you through exactly where to go and what materials you need. Plus, I’ll cover which Pokemon you can bring back to life, and even whether you can find shiny versions of them! I’ll also explain how to unlock the whole Fossil restoration feature to begin with.

How to Restore Fossil Pokemon in Legends Z-A

Getting Fossil Pokémon in Pokémon Legends Z-A works much like in past games: you’ll take fossil DNA to a lab and use a machine to bring the Pokémon back to life. This happens at the Pokémon Research Lab, which is located near Wild Area 1 in South Lumiose. You’ll automatically unlock the lab during the game’s introduction, so the main question now is how to actually restore those fossils!

How to Unlock Fossil Restoration in Pokemon Legends Z-A

In *Pokemon Legends Z-A*, you can start restoring fossils after you finish the main story mission “The Secrets of Mega Evolution” and reach F Rank. Once you’ve done that, a new mission marker will show up on the map above the Laboratory.

This is the “Restored from a Fossil” side quest. To begin, head to the 2nd Floor of the Laboratory and speak with the new NPC standing near the machine in the center of the room. They will give you 20,000 Poke Dollars to buy one of the two available Fossils at the Stone Emporium (they also sell Ancient Amber, which we’ll cover later).

Next, go to the Stone Emporium on Vernal Avenue, which is north of the Laboratory. There, buy either the Sail Fossil (Amaura) or the Jaw Fossil (Tyrunt) – both cost 20,000. Once you’ve chosen which Fossil Pokémon you want, return to the Lab and give it to the Researcher. After a short conversation, he’ll regenerate the fossil, bringing either Tyrunt or Amaura back to life.

All Available Fossils in Pokemon Legends Z-A & Can They Be Shiny?

With the Fossil Regeneration Machine now available, players can bring back as many Fossil Pokémon as they like. The Pokémon that can be revived are Aerodactyl, Mega Aerodactyl, Tyrunt, Tyrantrum, Amaura, and Aurorus.

  • Amaura evolves into Aurorus at Level 39, during the Night.
  • Tyrunt evolves into Tyrantrum at Level 39, during the Day.
  • Aerodactyl evolves into Mega Aerodactyl while holding the Aerodactylite.

All of these Pokémon have shiny versions, but finding one can be really difficult. You might be planning to spend a lot of time and money collecting Fossils hoping for a shiny Tyrunt, Amaura, or Aerodactyl, but there’s actually an easier way! Simply save your game, restore the Fossil, and then restart – you don’t need to spend all those Poke Dollars.

The Shiny Charm doesn’t work on Pokémon resurrected from Fossils. This means the chances of finding a Shiny Fossil Pokémon stay at a very low 1 in 4060, and players will need to keep trying and rely on luck.
