Where To Find The Undying Samurai

Defeat The Undying Samurai
As you pursue your quest to defeat the Yotei Six and avenge Atsu’s family in Ghost of Yotei, you’ll discover many optional activities, including the Mythic Tales.
This continues the story from the last game, where you completed a long side quest to discover a local legend and earn a special reward. We’ll be looking at the Undying Samurai Mythic Tale in detail now.
This story asks you to find four wind chimes hidden around the Ishikari Plains. I’ll show you exactly where they are and how to finish the story so you can unlock a special armor set.
How To Start The Undying Samurai Mythic Tale
Similar to other Mythic Tales, you’ll need to find the Storyteller’s Rest in the Ishikari Plains. I’ve included pictures above showing you exactly where it is!
You’ll find it north of Nakagoya Spring, right beside an enemy camp – I suggest dealing with them first. Once you arrive, speak with Ugetsu to begin the Mythic Tale of the Undying Samurai.
Now that the Undying Samurai’s cutscene is finished, we need to locate him. To do that, we’ll find four wind chimes in the area, and we’ll do it right now.
All Wind Chime Locations
Wind Chime #1
The first wind chime is surprisingly easy to find – you actually need it to locate the other three in this Mythic Tale. You can even spot it during the conversation between Atsu and Ugetsu.
Right after you regain control of Atsu, you’ll find the first wind chime on a nearby tree. Immediately after that, use your Yami longbow to defeat the bear standing next to the corpse.
Picking up this wind chime starts the next part of the task: finding the others by listening for their sound. You can use the sound to guide you, or check the locations listed below for a quicker solution.
Wind Chime #2
Now that you’ve found the Mythic Tale, swipe up on the touchpad. This will activate the first wind chime, which will then lead you to the remaining three.
The next wind chime is found near a rock formation directly above where the map shows ‘Nakagoya Spring,’ as I indicated earlier. When you get to that spot, you’ll find the chime on a body impaled with a polearm.
Wind Chime #3
We’re heading to the Rumoi River to hang the third wind chime – look for the upper mid-left area of the map.
You’ll find a Ronin examining a body at the location marked on the map. That body has the wind chime we’re looking for, but trying to ask for it politely won’t work with Atsu.

Beat the Ronin to earn the third wind chime. Then you’ll have everything you need to find the Undying Samurai.
Wind Chime #4
The last wind chime is right below the map title on the Stone Jaw Coast, where I’m standing in the picture.
To continue, you’ll need to reach the upper cliffside. You can do this by either climbing the side or riding a horse up. This is the same cliffside path that leads to Oni Castle in the main story.

There’s a wind chime attached to a body hanging from the tree. We need to use the grappling hook to bring the body down. After it’s down, move forward a little and grab the final wind chime.
Where To Find The Undying Samurai
Now that we have all the wind chimes, we need to go to the place where we can assemble them and, according to legend, summon the Undying Samurai.
To find the Undying Samurai, follow the sound of the wind chimes. They’ll lead you to a cliff on the northwestern coast of the Ishikari Plains – you can see the exact location in the images above.
When you get to this point, look down from the edge to find an easy path leading down. After some sliding and climbing on the rocky trail, you’ll reach a cave. Follow the path inside, and it will lead you to a narrow opening.

Carefully walk through this narrow space, and you’ll find yourself in a small area overlooking the bay. It’s filled with wind chimes, and there are four wooden posts at the end where you can hang the ones we found.
Defeat The Undying Samurai
Now that all the wind chimes are in place, prepare for a challenging battle against the Undying Samurai – we need to defeat him to prove our strength.
Similar to previous battles, success in this fight depends mostly on your skill. Learn the boss’s attacks and play aggressively to quickly break their defense and lower their health.

Once you defeat the Samurai, you’ll receive the Armor of the Undying – a personal favorite of mine! It’s fantastic both for the benefits it offers and how it looks, especially when fully upgraded.
