This article contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen and Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.
The original Jujutsu Kaisen manga concluded in 2024, but its story continued recently with a new series called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. Though created by the same author, Gege Akutami, JJK Modulo features different artwork. Even with only seven chapters released so far, the new series has already surprised fans with some major plot twists and information.
The newest chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo (Chapter 7) has revealed that Mahito, a major villain from the series, is coming back. He was thought to be dead after being absorbed following the Shibuya Incident, but it appears he was actually in a sort of in-between state. Mahito might be the first of several familiar enemies to reappear in JJK Modulo, with Ryomen Sukuna potentially among them.

- Yuji Will Also Return In JJK Modulo
The sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen, titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, is quickly gaining momentum. Set 68 years after the fight with Sukuna, it introduces a new generation of characters – Tsurugi and Yuka Okkotsu, the grandchildren of Maki and Yuta.
There’s no way he’s this powerful! What’s going on with him? — Tsurugi on Maru
Although we haven’t seen many characters from earlier in the series return yet, fans are excited that the author, Gege, is starting to bring some favorites back. The latest chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo revealed a huge surprise: Mahito is alive and back in the story!
Even though Tsurugi was unconscious after the fight, he had a dream about Mahito. It appears Mahito is in a state between life and death, but it’s still possible he’ll be reborn and return to the story. Within the dream, Mahito talks about someone who isn’t himself, suggesting he’s searching for a specific person – likely Yuji, who viewers briefly saw in a flashback related to Modulo.

Mahito’s recent statements suggest both his and Yuji Itadori’s return to the story, and confirm that Yuji is still alive. This sets the stage for a major confrontation between them.

Other Characters Gege Could Bring Back
Sukuna’s Return Is A Possibility

Gege Akutami surprised fans by resurrecting Mahito, leading many to speculate if this opens the door for other characters – particularly villains – to return as well.

It’s currently uncertain, but Gege might find a way to bring Sukuna back. Sukuna expressed a desire for a different life, and the Modulo storyline seems like a good place for that to happen. Another possibility is Sukuna’s reincarnation, or perhaps a revelation about his last remaining finger. Ultimately, fans will have to continue following the Modulo chapters to see what Gege plans.
Akutami explains that this moment inspired “Mojuro,” a story that started with no clear direction. After a lot of planning, it finally took shape. The story will be relatively short, lasting about six months and collected into around three volumes.

Although the Jujutsu Kaisen manga finished in late 2024, you can still read it online for free on Manga Plus – the platform where it was originally published each week. Now that the sequel, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, is out, you can find it there too, with new chapters released weekly. Chapter 8 of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is scheduled to be released on October 26, 2025.
