Splinter Cell Remake Loses Another Director

According to a new job listing from Ubisoft, the Splinter Cell remake has lost its director again.

The Splinter Cell series, known for its stealth-based spy gameplay inspired by Tom Clancy, was very popular in the 2000s and 2010s, with six main games and numerous novels. However, fans haven’t played as Sam Fisher since 2013’s Blacklist. A remake of the original game was announced in 2021 after a long wait, but development has been troubled. Recent news, including the departure of another director as indicated by a new job posting from Ubisoft, suggests the remake is facing difficulties.

Ubisoft Hiring New Director for Splinter Cell Remake

Tech4Gamers reported that Ubisoft recently posted a job opening for a Game Director at their Toronto studio. The listing, which has since been removed, was specifically for the Splinter Cell remake. The job description indicated the director would lead the development team and be responsible for creating new features for the game.

David Grivel, the original director, moved on from Ubisoft in 2022 after ten years with the company. With no new gameplay or updates for the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake, the project’s future feels uncertain. However, the series recently saw a small boost with the Netflix animated show, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, created by Derek Kolstad (of John Wick fame). Because the show was quickly renewed for a second season, there’s clearly still a lot of interest in the Splinter Cell universe. Hopefully, this positive momentum will lead to a new game being released soon.
