Major Releases, The Future of Total War and Big Updates
I haven’t posted a Firaxis News update for a week because I was recovering from a wedding and a very ambitious (and painful!) gym session right after. I couldn’t even lift my arms to type! Let’s quickly recap what happened last week, look ahead at what’s coming, and share some thoughts on a few things. I really should start doing these updates as videos instead.
The Future Of Total War To Be Known In December
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Total War series, and Creative Assembly has announced they’ll share their future plans for the franchise in December. Details are scarce right now, and fans are hoping for announcements of both historical and science fiction games. Here are my thoughts on what I’d like to see, ranked from most to least desired:
1 – Total War: Warhammer 40,000
2 – Total War: Star Wars
3 – Total War: Medieval 3
Anno 117: Pax Romana Out Soon
Ubisoft’s Anno 117: Pax Romana, the city-building strategy game everyone’s been waiting for, launches November 13th, 2025. It’s set to shake up the Anno formula with the addition of land-based real-time battles – something missing from the popular Anno 1800. I haven’t had a chance to try the demo from Steam Fest yet, as I’ve been busy with other game coverage, but I plan to and might share my initial thoughts. From what players are saying, the game is generating a lot of excitement and is shaping up to be one of the biggest releases of 2025.
Master of Command Is Shaping Strategy Gaming With New Twists
Armchair Historian’s new game, Master of Command, releases tomorrow, October 27th, and I really hope it does well! It’s been one of my favorite games of 2025. I gave it a 7.5/10 in my review – it could have easily been an 8.5 if not for a few frustrating bugs – because it’s genuinely a lot of fun. The game combines the depth of historical grand strategy with the excitement of real-time battles, and a roguelike campaign system keeps each playthrough unique and interesting, even after many hours.
“Their Finest Hour” Is Coming To Call To Arms – Ostfront
Call to Arms – Ostfront, a highly-rated World War 2 real-time strategy game, is getting a new downloadable content pack called ‘Their Finest Hour.’ This DLC focuses on the British military efforts throughout the Second World War, offering 16 missions that cover the entire conflict, from its beginning in 1939 to 1945. Players will experience the war from both German and British perspectives in missions lasting between 45 minutes and an hour. The new content will also be added to the game’s multiplayer mode, including 500 new soldier models, 170 new vehicles, 20 new maps, and new playable factions and units.
Super Mario Look-a-Like Super Fantasy Kingdom Out Now
Hooded Horse recently released Super Fantasy Kingdom, the first game from Super Fantasy Game. It’s now available on Steam Early Access and has received a “Very Positive” rating from players. The game combines city-building and roguelike elements, challenging you to grow your kingdom and defend it from demons. Though the gameplay isn’t brand new, its beautiful, colorful art style—similar to Super Mario—and affordable $15 price make it a great value and worth checking out.
