Players of the new game Pokemon Legends: Z-A believe they’ve found a hidden reference to Ash Ketchum and Pikachu. Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which has been eagerly awaited since its announcement, takes players back to the Kalos region – first seen in 2013’s Pokemon X and Y. The game is set in Lumiose City, a location inspired by Paris, and allows players to explore the city at any time of day or night.
The newest Pokemon game came out on Nintendo Switch on October 16th and has gotten mostly positive reviews from critics. However, players haven’t been as impressed. While critics give it an average score of 83 on OpenCritic, the game currently has a very low user score of 4.7 on Metacritic. Players have voiced concerns about technical problems, the lack of a truly open world, and a disappointing story. Despite these issues, many Pokemon fans are still finding enjoyable aspects of the game.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Gives a Nod to Ash and Pikachu
Players have discovered a charming reference to Ash Ketchum and Pikachu in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Content creator ChocolateKieran and ThePokeRaf both shared footage of an NPC named Pikami, found in a Lumiose City park, who is accompanied by a Pikachu. Pikami’s outfit—a blue and green jacket, red sneakers, and a red beanie—clearly echoes Ash’s iconic look. When you talk to Pikami, he proudly declares that his Pikachu is the strongest in the world, which starts a side quest called “The World’s Greatest Pikachu.” The quest challenges you to battle Pikami and his powerful Pikachu, and he even throws his Poke Ball just like Ash does in the anime!
In Pokemon Legends: Z-A, if you encounter the Ash and Pikachu reference before you’re prepared for a fight, you can still get your own Pikachu. You can either progress through the game until you reach Wild Zone 3, where Pikachus appear, or you can evolve a Pichu, which is available in Wild Zone 1. For longtime fans, battling the Ash clone is definitely a worthwhile experience.
Players will definitely find more secrets in the game, some hidden better than others. Recently, for instance, someone discovered a way to create duplicate shiny Pokémon in Legends: Z-A, letting them get extra copies to trade with others.
