Lethal Company Developer Releases Free-to-Play Horror Game on Steam

Welcome to the Dark Place is a new psychological horror game from Zeekerss, the developer behind the popular game Lethal Company. It’s currently available to play for free on Steam. Zeekerss has a history of creating successful games on both Steam and Roblox over the past ten years, and their latest title is already receiving very positive feedback from players on PC.

The co-op game Lethal Company became incredibly popular on Steam and helped many horror fans discover the work of its creator, Zeekerss. But Zeekerss has been making games for years, and their new project marks a return to the kinds of games they were creating before Lethal Company.

Welcome to the Dark Place Is a Text-Based Psychological Horror Experience

The creator of the popular game Lethal Company, Zeekerss, has just released a new free-to-play game on Steam called Welcome to the Dark Place. It’s a text-based psychological horror adventure that fans of Zeekerss’ earlier game, Silent Dark, will likely enjoy, as it shares a similar story and atmosphere. Silent Dark was a viral hit on Roblox back in 2016 and even received a nomination for best single-player game that year. Zeekerss says they started working on Welcome to the Dark Place around the time Silent Dark became popular, but it took almost eight years to finish.

I started working on this game around 2017, and it was actually my first project outside of Roblox. I ended up scrapping everything and starting over in 2019, and honestly, I’ve been building on that version ever since. It’s cool because this game was where I really figured things out – a lot of the ideas and lessons I learned here ended up in my other games, like The Upturned, which you might know as a survival horror game on Steam.

Though not as refined as games like Lethal Company, Welcome to the Dark Place is gaining popularity with horror fans who are looking for something unique. The game uses sound and text to create truly scary situations. Players must make smart choices during tense moments to escape a nightmarish world. Many are impressed by how effectively the game builds atmosphere with simple mechanics, and credit the developer’s long history of making successful psychological horror games.
