Official Ranking Reveals Japan’s Top 10 Fall 2025 Anime

The fall 2025 anime season is underway, and most shows are several episodes in. While popular series like My Hero Academia, Spy x Family, and One-Punch Man are highlights, several new anime are also gaining attention.

We often discuss how popular anime are with international audiences, but Japanese viewers sometimes have different opinions. Recent data from the Japanese streaming platform Niconico shows which series were most watched this fall. While some of the top shows are well-known, the top 5 might be unexpected for some fans.

Japan’s Top Anime of Fall 2025 Might Turn Some Heads

This season’s most anticipated anime included the final season of My Hero Academia, which fans had been eagerly awaiting all year. The return of Spy x Family for its third season, To Your Eternity with a new season, and One-Punch Man after its somewhat controversial second season also generated a lot of excitement. However, surprisingly, none of these shows made it into the top 5 rankings on Niconico.

Most of the shows in the top 10 haven’t received as much buzz as those two popular titles from Weekly Shonen Jump. Interestingly, the top two anime in the rankings are actually spin-offs of already well-known series in Japan.

Spin-offs Reign Supreme in New Rankings

Style of Hiroshi Nohara’s Lunch is a side story from the popular Crayon Shin-chan, following Shin-chan’s dad, Hiroshi, during his lunchtime. It’s a really relaxing and enjoyable show, perfect for both new viewers and longtime fans of the series.

Like the original Gintama, Gintama: Mr. Ginpachi’s Zany Class is a funny spin-off series. This one reimagines the characters as students, with Gintoki taking on the role of their teacher. Its humor is very much in line with the main Gintama series, helping it stand out as one of the funniest shows this season.

Rounding out the top 5 is Tojima Wants To Be a Kamen Rider, a unique story about a 40-year-old man named Tanzaburou Toujima who has always dreamed of becoming a Kamen Rider. When a new conflict arises, it reignites his childhood passion. It’s no surprise this series is popular in Japan, considering how beloved the Kamen Rider franchise is. This spin-off stands out as particularly imaginative.

May I Ask For One Final Thing? is a unique revenge story about a young noblewoman named Scarlet. After her fiancé falsely accuses her of being a bully and ends their engagement, she decides to get her revenge on him and those who helped him. It’s a standout anime in the fall 2025 season because you don’t often see stories quite like this one.

The anime series Dusk Beyond The End of the World comes from studio P.A. Works. The story begins with Akira Himegami, a talented AI developer, being critically wounded while protecting his foster sister. He’s placed in cryogenic sleep and awakens 200 years later to a world devastated by an apocalypse. A shadowy organization named OWEL is now trying to seize control of all technology from before the disaster, and Akira quickly becomes a target. Rescued by an android named Yugure, Akira embarks on a journey to find his sister, believing she might still be alive.
