Druckmann admitted that the game may not continue further, as he aims to provide a “conclusive ending” for the show. Essentially, Druckmann plans ahead by having an ending in mind for his projects, just in case he can’t continue them, and to avoid leaving fans in suspense. He clarified this approach by stating:

“I need to have an ending,” Druckmann told IGN. This has been his consistent practice throughout his work.

In the process of creating The Last of Us 1, I wasn’t certain if there would be a follow-up, thus I aimed for a conclusive finale. Similarly, while working on Uncharted 4, uncertainty surrounded whether we’d return to it again, so I strove for a definitive ending. This approach applied to The Last of Us 2 as well. All these narratives needed to align perfectly.

Druckmann wasn’t certain about how long he would continue working on what he was doing or if there would be a chance to do more. However, he added, “I won’t leave any stones unturned,” indicating that they have a conclusion in mind for the story. This suggests that even if Druckman ends the series, there could potentially be an opportunity to revisit it because the ending would be specific to that particular narrative.

The title “The Last of Us 3” might signal additional seasons for the TV series. Regrettably, there has been no recent news on whether a third installment of the video game is being developed. Recently, when asked about the game’s future, Druckmann gave an unpromising response, stating that fans should not expect it, even saying “This could be it.” If the game concludes its story, there wouldn’t be much left to adapt for the TV show.
