A Pokemon enthusiast recently stumbled upon a surprising treasure while buying a used copy of Pokemon Pearl. Hidden within the game’s saved data was a special, event-exclusive Pokemon! As Pokemon’s popularity continues to grow, it’s become increasingly difficult and expensive for fans to find older games. Titles from the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS eras, especially games like Pokemon Black and White, can easily cost over $100. This recent discovery in a Nintendo DS game is a particularly exciting find for collectors.
Event Pokémon have been a part of the Pokémon series since the beginning, but how players get them has changed a lot over time. In the past, special events at stores or larger gatherings were how players received unique Legendary and Mythical Pokémon. Now, most event Pokémon are distributed online through the Mystery Gift system, letting players download Pokémon with special moves or characteristics. Recently, one Pokémon fan discovered a piece of the older distribution method – a surprising find from the series’ history.
Reddit user Thiccolo876 recently shared an amazing discovery on the Pokemon subreddit: a used copy of Pokemon Pearl they bought from a local vintage store contained a rare Jirachi Pokemon! This Jirachi was a special event Pokemon distributed at GameStop stores in 2010, and came in a Cherish Ball knowing the moves Wish, Confusion, Rest, and Draco Meteor. The user also posted photos showing the game was a complete package, including the original box and instruction manuals.
Pokemon Fan Finds Event Jirachi in Used Pokemon Pearl Game
I remember when Jirachi first came out – it was so hard to get! Back then, you basically needed an Action Replay or a special bonus disc with Pokemon Colosseum to even have a chance of getting one. They did have some distribution events too, but it was still a big deal. It’s crazy to think that for a long time, you could only get Jirachi that way. The only time you could actually find one in a main series game, without any extras, was in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl – there was just one hiding in Floaroma Town! It was a really cool surprise for fans like me.
The recent discovery of a Jirachi is notable because the Pokemon series often features rare and difficult-to-find Mythical Pokemon. Pokemon GO first allowed players to obtain Mythical Pokemon with Meltan and Melmetal, though these weren’t available in core games after Pokemon Sword and Shield. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet continued this trend, introducing Pecharunt as part of a DLC expansion after players finished the main story. This Jirachi find is a special glimpse into the long and fascinating history of the Pokemon franchise.
