This article contains spoilers from the Naruto and Boruto series.
Many fans of the Naruto series are hoping to see more of Naruto Uzumaki, the Seventh Hokage, in Boruto. Since the Boruto series began, some feel Naruto hasn’t been treated well by the new author, Mikio Ikemoto. While his power has been reduced a few times, the biggest problem is that he’s currently been removed from the main storyline.
Naruto Uzumaki is currently absent from the Boruto storyline because he was sealed away by Kawaki over two years ago. Fans have been eagerly awaiting news about his return, but it appears he won’t be back in the series anytime soon – potentially not for several years. This means fans will have to do without their beloved Hokage for the foreseeable future.
Naruto Uzumaki Was Sealed Away By Kawaki
Naruto Isn’t Present In Two Blue Vortex
- Naruto Uzumaki will remain sealed for now
- The author has no plans to free him at the moment
The Naruto Next Generations manga concluded with Naruto Uzumaki and Hinata Hyuga being sealed away in another dimension by Kawaki. He did this to shield them from the Otsutsuki clan, but also to prevent interference when he eventually faces Boruto with the intention of killing him as part of his mission to eliminate all Otsutsuki. The story has progressed significantly since then, and Naruto Uzumaki has not yet reappeared.

The recent storyline in Boruto has unfortunately made it clear that Naruto won’t be back for a very long time, if at all. A new villain, Jura, has specifically targeted Naruto after discovering he’s still alive. On top of that, it’s now established that Kawaki is determined to protect Naruto at all costs. This means Kawaki won’t allow Naruto to be freed while Jura remains a threat, and Naruto’s return likely won’t happen until Jura and all of the Shinju are defeated.
Naruto Will Only Return After Kawaki Vs Boruto
The Battle Is Years Away For Now
Fans should remember that during his fight with Boruto, Kawaki mentioned sending Boruto to the same place as the Seventh Hokage. This confirms that Naruto is still trapped in the dimension of Daikokuten. He won’t be released until after Kawaki and Boruto finish their battle, so his return isn’t likely to happen soon.

Considering the current pace, it will likely take 20 to 30 chapters—roughly two years—to resolve the conflict with the Shinju. After that, the storyline will shift to the fight against Kawaki, which is expected to take another one to three years to develop. This means fans shouldn’t expect to see Naruto return for at least three years, and possibly even five or more. While it’s a long wait, that’s the current outlook for the series.
I’m so excited for Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 27! It’s officially dropping on October 20, 2025, at 10 AM Eastern Time / 3 PM UTC. And the best part? We can read it for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app, just like always!
