Former Disney Exec Joins Ethereum Developer Consensys

As a seasoned crypto investor with a knack for recognizing potential, I find the recent appointment of Dan Odell as CFO at Consensys to be quite intriguing. With his extensive background in managing large-scale businesses like Disney and Improbable, coupled with his experience in digital entertainment and virtual worlds, he seems well-equipped to navigate the complexities of Ethereum development.

Renowned Ethereum developer ConsenSys has chosen Dan Odell, a previous executive at Disney, as their new Chief Financial Officer, as announced in a press release on Tuesday.

In 2004, Odell became the head of financial planning and analysis at Disney’s Consumer Products division. This role entailed supervising areas such as merchandise licensing, publishing, video games for consoles, among others.

As a researcher, I can share that in the year 2014, I was entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing Disney’s entire game business. In this role, I was appointed as the Chief Financial Officer for the business unit specializing in mobile and online games production. My leadership extended to teams stationed across various countries.

2015 saw Odell taking on the role of Chief Financial Officer at Market Studio, a digital entertainment company that had been taken over by Disney in 2014. His duties included overseeing financial strategy, reporting, and accounting operations.

Ultimately, by the year 2017, he assumed the role of Vice President for Global Product Management at Disney, overseeing various teams dedicated to marketing, product creation, and business expansion.

2020 saw him take up the role of CEO at Improbable, a startup backed by Softbank, which specializes in creating virtual realms. In this position, Odell managed investor communications, strategic collaborations, and fundraising efforts.

In his statement, ConsenSys CEO Joseph Lubin commended Odell for his extensive knowledge, and further noted that his abilities match perfectly with the strategic direction of the Ethereum development studio.

Later on, Odell expressed his excitement about fostering the company’s expansion and improving its fiscal plans.

According to U.Today’s report, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) brought charges against ConsenSys in late June, alleging that they were running an unregistered brokerage operation.
