In the world of Demon Slayer, Akaza stands out as one of the strongest demons ever portrayed. As a member of the Upper-Rank Three Twelve Kizuki, he boasts an overwhelming power far beyond that of ordinary demons. A key factor in his formidable fighting abilities is his exceptional Blood Demon Art, called “Destructive Death.” This lethal Blood Demon Art enables Akaza to control and skillfully use shockwaves as a part of his combat strategy.

By perfectly integrating his skills in the martial art called Soryu with his demonic powers, Akaza has reached a harmonious balance. This fusion of martial arts and supernatural strength poses a formidable threat, making him a tough adversary even for top-tier demon slayers.

Who is Akaza?

The Formidable Upper Rank Three

Demon Slayer: Akaza's Blood Demon Art, Explained

Over a century ago, Akaza was a human named Hakuji who trained vigorously in martial arts under the Soryu style. Though highly skilled, he was unable to save his loved ones when they required help, filling him with hatred for his human weakness. This drive to protect others would later influence Akaza’s actions and worldview as a demon.

In his transformation as a demon, Akaza ascended to the position of Upper-Rank Three within Muzan’s Twelve Kizuki, earning a fearsome reputation for massacring many Demon Slayers. Akaza derives immense pleasure from engaging in battles with formidable adversaries and savoring each battle moment. He admires warriors who display strength but despises weakness, finding it repugnant to witness the feeble. With an unyielding spirit and a compulsion for enhancing his abilities, Akaza aims to surpass all opponents. His relentless determination was vividly demonstrated when he continued fighting even after being decapitated by Tanjiro’s sword.

Apologies for any confusion, Tanjiro. What I truly abhor are the feeble-hearted. I scorn those who lack strength. Indeed, it’s the meek that make me shudder. It’s only natural, as per the laws of nature, that the weak should be eliminated.

Akaza’s Shockwave Manipulation

Akaza’s Blood Demon Art primarily focuses on his expertise in martial arts and the manipulation of powerful shockwaves. He seamlessly combines his mastery of these shockwaves with the Soryu-style martial arts he acquired as a human. The shockwaves that Akaza commands take the form of intense blue energies, which manifest in different shapes like invisible pressure waves, circular ripples, or cannon-like spikes.

Akaza possesses the ability to create powerful shockwaves on demand, originating from any part of his body. In combat situations, he incorporates these shockwaves into his punches and kicks, wrapping them in a faint blue glow that intensifies their force. Before engaging in fights, Akaza employs a technique known as “Technique Development,” which involves specific poses derived from the Soryu Style.

Using his Blood Demon Art and fighting techniques, Akaza unleashes destructive long-range volleys and precise short-range attacks. In his fight against Kyojuro Rengoku, he kept the Flame Hashira at a distance with shockwaves before moving in for close combat, where his abilities truly stood out. The force of Akaza’s shockwaves was enough to crush Kyojuro’s ribcage and internal organs. He is also capable of producing multiple shockwaves around his enemies, attacking them from various directions all at once.

Akaza’s Compass Needle

How Akaza Gains the Upper Hand in Battle

Demon Slayer: Akaza's Blood Demon Art, Explained

One of Akaza’s unique traits is his “Compass Needle” skill. With this ability, he can produce a light blue snowflake-shaped compass beneath him that displays numbers from 1 to 12. By using this compass, Akaza can detect an opponent’s “Fighting Spirit,” or their determination to battle, gaining various tactical advantages in combat due to this perception.

Via his Compass Needle, Akaza possesses the ability to gauge a person’s power instantly by looking at them. It also provides him with an acute awareness of his surroundings and an instinctive sense for detecting adversaries’ movements, including those from blind spots. This heightened perception allows Akaza to pinpoint and accurately target his enemies’ vulnerabilities without ever missing. As Tanjiro noted, it seemed as though Akaza’s attacks were attracted magnetically to the opponents’ vitals, hitting with unmatched precision even through the tiniest of gaps.

Over time, Akaza’s Compass Needle seems to adapt to his opponents, enabling him to predict and counter their attacks effectively. The more powerful an opponent’s Fighting Spirit, the easier it is for him to detect them using the Compass Needle. This tool helps Akaza perform extraordinary feats such as locating Tanjiro and overpowering Giyu without relying on sight or sound. Through this exceptional perception, Akaza elevates his battle skills to remarkable levels.

Akaza’s Blood Demon Art Techniques

Akaza’s Arsenal of Deadly Moves

Beyond the Compass Needle method, Akaza also boasts numerous Blood Demon Art skills, each harnessing his extraordinary powers.

Some of Akaza’s most notable Blood Demon Art techniques include:

  • Air Type: Akaza can punch the air in front of him and create powerful shockwaves that fly toward his target, hitting them from a distance. He can unleash multiple airborne shockwaves in quick succession and use them, whether in the sky or on the ground.
  • Disorder: Akaza rapidly punches his opponent, unleashing a massive barrage of large shockwaves that can destroy everything in front.
  • Annihilation Type: One of Akaza’s most powerful moves. He crouches low and holds both arms at his sides, then lunges forward, unleashing two circular shockwaves from his palms with tremendous force.
  • Leg Type: Crown Splitter: A reverse, rising axe kick that produces a shockwave on impact.
  • Leg Type: Explosive Flurry: Swift flashing flurry of straight kicks that create afterimages, each emitting strong shockwaves. Powerful enough to launch Giyu Tomioka an extremely long distance.
  • Leg Type: Flying Planet Thousand Wheels: A kick utilizing a flowing motion that strikes the target from below and launches it upward.
  • Eight-Layered Demon Core: Akaza unleashes eight powerful punches, each strike creating large shockwaves similar to Disorder.
  • Crushing Type: Ten Thousand Leaves Flashing Willow: A powerful downward punch delivering a large shockwave into the ground that expands outward.
  • Final Form: Blue Silver Chaotic Afterglow: Akaza’s ultimate technique, an omnidirectional barrage of countless thin shockwaves that deliver a hundred blows from everywhere simultaneously.

By demonstrating his proficiency in lethal combat skills, Akaza stands out as one of the most formidable demons that the Demon Slayer Corps have encountered.
