Here Are This Week’s Firaxis News!
Hi everyone! This week’s news update is shorter than usual because the games industry is generally slowing down as the year comes to a close. We’ll cover the new DLC for Company of Heroes 3, the latest from Slitherine Games’ Battleplan showcase, and updates on the Total War: Warhammer III – Tides of Torment DLC, plus a few other interesting topics!
Company of Heroes Endure & Defy DLC Coming This Month
I’m surprised Company of Heroes 3 is still going strong, especially with new downloadable content being released regularly – it suggests a good number of players are still enjoying the multiplayer. However, a quick look at Steam stats shows that Company of Heroes 2 still has a slightly larger daily player base, though the numbers are pretty similar.
The latest Endure & Defy expansion is designed solely for multiplayer, and it adds four new battlegroups to the game.
- US Forces – Italian Partisan Battlegroup: Tunnel networks, resource siphoning, and underground detonations are sure to be a thorn at the enemy’s side;
- Wehrmacht – Last Stand Battlegroup: A defensive battlegroup composed of immobilized vehicles adapted into improved positions;
- British Forces – Polish Cavalry Battlegroup: Very self-descriptive, but it has Sherman Fireflies with rocket launchers, because the 76mm gun didn’t suffice;
- Deutsches Afrikakorps – Kriegsmarine Battlegroup: It sounds like another defensive battlegroup, but it can count on the help of the Kriegsmarine offshore to keep enemies’ heads down.
It’s great to see Company of Heroes 3 continuing to thrive and receive support. I’m really hoping the developers create another large-scale campaign, ideally set during the Normandy landings. I think the game will be fantastic when it gets a full release in 2025, and it’s fun to imagine what could happen!
Battleplan Showcase Looks Fun And I Want To Try It
I’m really looking forward to Battleplan! It’s a World War 2 game, specifically set in the Normandy campaign, which is my favorite. The game seems designed for lots of future expansions – I expect we’ll see content based on operations like Ardennes and Stalingrad soon. The gameplay shown off on Friday looked very promising and suggests a deep, engaging experience.
The main part of the game involves careful planning. Players need to map out their attacks, predict what the enemy will do, and set up backup plans or counterattacks. Battles happen over several days and nights, and managing your time is key. You push forward during the day, and use the cover of night to move troops around and prepare for surprise attacks at dawn. I didn’t include this game in my list of most anticipated wargames because I didn’t think it would be released soon, but now that people are playing it on YouTube, it looks like it might be coming out soon—and I’m excited to try it!

Total War: Warhammer III – Tides of Torment DLC
Fans of Total War: Warhammer III have a new expansion to look forward to! Called Tides of Torment, it arrives on December 4th, 2025, and introduces three new powerful leaders – Legendary Lords – for the High Elves, Slaanesh, and Norsca factions. The DLC will be released with a major update (version 7.0) that includes new units, campaign features, and improvements. The High Elf lord, Aislinn, will focus on naval warfare with units like Mist Mages and Sea Elementals. Dechala, known for her six blades, will lead a campaign centered around brutal land conquest. Finally, Sayl, a Chaos Sorcerer, will embark on a quest to build a Chaos Altar and complete a powerful ritual.
Tavern Keeper Out Now
The creator of Game Dev Tycoon recently launched their new game, Tavern Keeper, after ten years of development. It’s a charming and colorful management simulator where you play as an innkeeper. Released on November 3rd, the game has quickly earned almost 1000 reviews and a very positive “overwhelmingly positive” rating. I haven’t tried it yet, but it looks so enjoyable that I don’t think I’ll be able to stay away much longer!
Task Force Admiral Target Release Window Announced
We’re excited to announce that Task Force Admiral is currently on track to launch into Early Access in the first quarter of 2026! After a long wait, this means we could be playing this groundbreaking wargame in just a few months. Having had a chance to preview it, I can confidently say it’s something special and I’m really looking forward to its release.
Whiskerwood Out Now In Early Access
Do you remember Whiskerwood, the game I mentioned during the Steam Next Fest? It’s a colony simulator where you play as mice trying to keep their cat owners happy. It’s now available on Steam Early Access with a 20% discount!
Wargame Design Studio Game of the Week

Wargame Design Studio is offering a 25% discount on their latest title! This one takes you back to the early 1700s and the Great Northern War, a twenty-one-year conflict sparked when Russia, Denmark, and Saxony joined forces against Sweden. The game features 89 scenarios that recreate key battles and includes detailed unit information for every situation.
See You Next Week!
I apologize for the shorter update this week, but I prefer to only share news when there is something substantial to report. I hope you have a wonderful Sunday and a great week ahead!
