In the upcoming Patch 11.1.5, World of Warcraft will introduce a new feature to tailor item quality colors based on rarity. This means that items ranging from gray Poor to orange Legendaries can now be distinguished more clearly by colorblind players, allowing them to easily discern the power level of their equipment.
Just shared: The hit game World of Warcraft has revealed details about Patch 11.1.5, its upcoming content for “The War Within”. This new patch introduces the Nightfall world activity, a special Dastardly Duos event (temporarily), and an updated Horrific Visions Revisited. Some parts of this update are already accessible on the World of Warcraft Public Test Realm.
In the latest update for Patch 11.1.5 (PTR), a novel accessibility feature has been added to enhance the gaming experience for colorblind gamers in World of Warcraft. Nestled within the Accessibility settings, under the Colors tab, players can now personalize the color scheme of every item quality in the game, from ordinary items like Poor and Common to exceptional ones such as Legendaries, Artifacts, and Heirlooms. This feature comes equipped with a user-friendly color picker and hex code input, providing a myriad of customization possibilities. A popular World of Warcraft content creator named MrGM showcased this functionality in action on Twitter.
Item Rarity Color Change Option in WoW Patch 11.1
This innovative feature has been designed to enhance reading clarity for individuals with color blindness or visual impairments when assessing items they acquire. Yet, it’s accessible to all users, enabling everyone to adjust the text of their item rarity according to their individual tastes and preferences.

Enthusiasts of World of Warcraft are thrilled about the upcoming customization feature in Patch 11.1.5. Although some devotees have expressed reservations about altering the item quality colors in WoW, given their long-standing coding, many acknowledge that this change is particularly significant for the colorblind community. Moreover, this adjustment is optional and can be made on a client-side basis, allowing those who prefer the original item quality colors to continue undisturbed.
Default Item Quality Colors by Rarity in World of Warcraft
| Rarity | Color |
|---|---|
| Poor | Gray |
| Common | White |
| Uncommon | Green |
| Rare | Blue |
| Epic | Purple |
| Legendary | Orange |
| Artifact | Gold |
| Heirloom | Light Blue |
Although you can try out the color selection option for items in the PTR (Public Test Realm) at the moment, it won’t be available in the retail version of World of Warcraft until Patch 11.1.5 is released. The release date for this content update hasn’t been confirmed yet, but clues from the PTR and planned changes to the Guild Name Change service in World of Warcraft hint it could come as soon as April 22. Keep an eye out for an official announcement within a few weeks.
