An anime series based on the video game Death Stranding is in the works, announced by Hideo Kojima and Disney. This new show is one of several Death Stranding projects that have been revealed recently.
The game Death Stranding offers players a unique post-apocalyptic setting, and upcoming adaptations will add even more depth to its world and characters. A movie and animated series were previously announced, and now it appears the universe created by Kojima Productions is continuing to grow with even more projects.
New Death Stranding Anime to Stream on Disney+
At the Disney APAC Showcase, Disney announced a new anime series, Death Stranding: Isolations, which will be available to stream exclusively on Disney+ starting in 2027. While details about the story are still limited, the series is confirmed to be set in the same universe as the Death Stranding video game, following the journey of Sam Bridges.
I’m so hyped for this anime! From what I’ve read, it’s going to center around Bridges and a bunch of other interesting characters trying to survive in this really isolated world. Apparently, there’s an old man on a quest for some kind of redemption, and a powerful female warrior who seems determined to keep the world in chaos. Then there’s a young boy who has it out for Norman Reedus’ character, and a girl who’s just trying to come to terms with being alone. It sounds incredibly complex and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out!
The series will be animated by E&H Production, a relatively new Japanese studio established in 2021 and headed by Sunghoo Park, who previously directed at MAPPA and on Jujutsu Kaisen. Takayuki Sano, a seasoned key animator known for his work on titles like Attack on Titan and Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, will direct. Hideo Kojima is serving as executive producer. Despite being a Japanese anime, the team aims for a worldwide appeal and plans to involve talent from across the globe. A promotional image was revealed, but the final title of the series is still being decided.
I’m so excited for more Death Stranding content! It’s not just the new animated series we’ve heard about – apparently, there’s a live-action movie from A24 planned for 2027, which is awesome! We don’t know when Death Stranding: Mosquito will come out yet, but they did release a little teaser, so maybe we’ll get to see that one before the movie or the other series is finished. Fingers crossed!
