As a fan who has journeyed through the savage planets and survived countless encounters with alien creatures, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming sequel, “Revenge of the Savage Planet.” The fact that this game was always planned by the Raccoon Logic team, drawing on their rich experience with the IP, makes it even more exciting.


Raccoon Logic has unveiled “Revenge on the Wild Planet,” a follow-up to their 2020 comedic escapade titled “Journey to the Wild Planet.” In this sequel, players assume the character of an Alta Interglobal employee who finds themselves stranded on various alien planets following their job termination. The game offers additional tools for use, challenges to solve, new worlds to discover, and unique creatures to engage with. The developers at Raccoon Logic have confirmed that a sequel was long-planned due to their fondness for the IP and belief in untold stories. However, real-world circumstances influenced the creative decisions made for “Revenge on the Wild Planet.”

As a die-hard fan, I recently had the thrill of meeting up with the brilliant minds behind Raccoon Logic for an exclusive on-site unveiling of “Revenge of the Savage Planet.” During our chat, creative director Alex Hutchinson casually mentioned that they’ve always envisioned a two-part series. Hearing this, I couldn’t help but feel excited at the prospect of diving deeper into the captivating world of “Savage Planet” without ever feeling like it’s too much or becoming monotonous.

During the process of creating the first “Journey to the Savage Planet” game, there were talks about developing a sequel, as reported by Hutchinson. Since many team members had experience working on subsequent titles in popular franchises like “Assassin’s Creed” and “Far Cry,” they understood the advantages of creating a second game under the same intellectual property (IP), instead of ending with just one. Technical design director Marc-Antoine Lussier shared his thoughts, stating:

“The initial follow-up is exhilarating, as you are confident that the intellectual property is viable. You clearly understand what adjustments are necessary, eliminating any doubts about its validity.”

Hutchinson concurred, elaborating that the team pondered over whether the atmosphere of the initial “Journey’s” gameplay would lean more towards “Subnautica” or “Metroid Prime.” However, when developing “Revenge,” such deliberations were unnecessary since the team was familiar with the IP. They incorporated features they couldn’t include in the original game, such as whip and grappling hook tools, a tailor-made Habitat for customization, and the option to capture creatures and engage with them at the home base.

Originally planned to create a follow-up to “Journey to the Savage Planet“, unforeseen real-world events nearly halted its production. The initial game was developed by Typhoon Studios, who were later acquired by Google for their work on Stadia. Unfortunately, when Typhoon was closed down and dissolved, some of its original team members regrouped as Raccoon Logic. Remarkably, they managed to secure the rights to the “Savage Planet” intellectual property from Google and commenced development on “Revenge“.
