Peacock’s Twisted Metal Renewed for a Third Season

Peacock has renewed its show Twisted Metal for a third season, which is based on the popular PlayStation video game series. However, there will be new leadership behind the scenes, as the show has a new showrunner.

The show Twisted Metal, which premiered in 2023, is based on the classic PlayStation games. It became a surprising hit for Peacock, boosted by stars like Anthony Mackie (known from Captain America) and Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine). After a positive reception to its second season earlier this year, Peacock has renewed the action series for a third season, though it will feature some new creative directions.

The Boys’ David Reed to Showrun Twisted Metal Season Three, Show Creator to Exit

Twisted Metal has been renewed for a third season, as first reported by Variety. The show’s second season performed well on Peacock, becoming one of the platform’s most-watched returning original series with nearly a billion minutes viewed. There will be a change in leadership, however, as creator and showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith is leaving the series. The reasons for his departure haven’t been revealed. David Reed, a writer and director, will be joining current showrunners Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Details about casting or a release date for the new season are currently unknown.

David has a strong resume, with his most impressive work being as a writer for the popular Prime Video series, The Boys, which will conclude in 2026. He’s also contributed to shows like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Supernatural. Although Michael Jonathan Smith’s leaving is unfortunate, Reed appears to be a very capable replacement.
