Even before the current, final arc of One Piece started, the author, Eiichiro Oda, revealed Saint Imu Nerona, the hidden ruler of the world. During the Reverie arc, Imu was shown sitting on the World Government’s Empty Throne, secretly controlling everything. While many things about this character were notable, their appearance was the most puzzling. Seven years later, Imu’s true form remains a mystery. When they were first introduced, Imu appeared as a shadowy figure with no clear shape.

I’ve been watching the series, and it’s clear these beings have a human-like form, though all you really see are those striking, red eyes. Even their hands seem to be lost in shadow. It’s been seven years since they first appeared, and it looks like Eiichiro Oda is now confirming that the shadowy look isn’t just a way to build suspense. In One Piece chapter 1165, it was officially revealed that Imu’s true form is a dark, monstrous figure. Prior to this confirmation, during the events at God Valley, Imu possessed Saturn’s body and withstood incredibly powerful attacks from legendary pirates like Roger, Garp, Rocks, Kaido, Big Mom, and Whitebeard with almost no reaction. Following this display of power, both Roger and Garp verified that Imu’s real appearance is indeed that of a shadowy monster.
