The Epic Games Store is now letting users gift games to each other, which is perfect timing for the holidays. This is just the latest improvement to the platform since it first launched.
These days, most PC gamers download their games instead of buying physical copies. Several companies, including Origin, Steam, Epic Games Store, and Amazon, have competed for players’ business, but with different results. Origin has been replaced by the EA App, and Amazon ultimately couldn’t challenge Steam’s dominance. The Epic Games Store is still active and continues to improve with new features to attract and retain players.
Epic Games Store Reveals Gifting Function
The Epic Games Store now lets you gift games to your friends! You can send purchased games directly to people on your Epic friends list, and you’ll still earn Epic Rewards for doing so. You can use your Epic Rewards balance to buy gifts, but keep in mind that free games, pre-orders, subscriptions, and in-game purchases can’t be gifted at this time.
Epic Games has also outlined how players can send gifts, and it’s a fairly straightforward process.
- After finding a game that the user wants to gift, they should choose “Buy as Gift”
- This will open the friends list, upon which players should select which friend they want to send it to.
- If the buyer wishes to, they can set the delivery date for the game, up to two weeks after they complete the purchase.
- With the transaction complete, the receiving player will receive a notice on the Epic Games Store platform that they have received a gift. If they have email alerts turned on, they’ll also receive a notice there regarding the received gift.
- In the event that the recipient doesn’t want the game or already has it, the purchase will be refunded to the gifter.
Okay, so Epic finally listened to us! They just added game preloads to the Epic Games Store, which we’ve been asking for forever. Basically, now I can download a game before it officially launches, so I can jump right in and play as soon as it’s live. It’s awesome because I won’t have to sit around watching the download bar crawl on release day, and it should also help keep the servers from getting totally overloaded when a big game drops.
Players have been requesting the ability to gift games on the Epic Games Store since it launched in 2018. Though it took a while, the feature is now available, and that’s a welcome addition for many.
