Twitch announced Wednesday that it’s updating how it counts views on clips. The change is designed to more accurately measure how many people are actually watching and engaging with the content.
The company announced five updates on social media to improve how it counts views. This is part of their ongoing work to stop fake views generated by bots, which have been a problem for some time.
Twitch explained that although clip views might seem lower at first, the new system will provide more reliable and consistent data across all platforms, leading to a clearer understanding of how clips are performing.
As far as the specific changes go, those include:
- Fixing a technical issue that was inadvertently inflating clip view counts
- Including clip views from Stories in clip view totals
- Making view counting more consistent across all platforms (web, iOS, Android)
- Better filtering out of bot traffic
- Enabling improved clip analytics and laying the groundwork for us to explore new analytics features
