As a dedicated fan of Tower of God who’s been on this journey since the webtoon days, I must say that episode 8 of season 2 was a rollercoaster ride! The blend of humor, suspense, and intrigue kept me hooked from start to finish.

Fast forward a month before this impending event, Ja Wangnan’s team has significantly improved in strength and morale, while Khun Aguero Agnes’s group has been steadily ascending the Tower, reaching the same location just as the others.

Emily precisely provides this information to Dan, enabling him and his teammates to anticipate their opponents’ moves. However, Khun was displeased that Dan chose to act based on the data from the chatbot instead of following the established team strategies.

Their dynamic in this installment is harmonious, and it’s evident that they trust each other more than previously. With Ja Wangnan focusing more on strategy than combat, the group’s tactics frequently incorporate feints and weak points in their defense to bait opponents, who will then encounter the formidable fighting ability of Arkraptor, Kang “Devil’s Left Arm” Horyang, and undeniably, Jue Viole Grace.

Once again, Ja Wangnan takes on a comical role amidst his main character status in this new season, a part he executes skillfully. The humor in “Tower of God” may not always be uproariously funny, but it’s certainly engaging, as evidenced by Ja Wangnan’s antics and encounters with adversaries during the test. Regrettably, the animation, particularly in fight scenes, detracts from some of the season’s brighter aspects.

In brief fights this season, Ran’s actions against the four-armed opponent and badger from Team Aguero lacked the dynamic energy found in many anime battles, even those from less popular titles. The flashes of multi-colored light seem slow and restricted, rather than the fluid movements expected of malleable abilities. These abilities are cut off before they reach their full potential due to strategic edits, reducing the impact they could have. Interestingly, during Team Wangnan’s performance, we notice Viole’s eyes more often, suggesting a heightened level of trust between Viole and his new teammates since the time-skip.

He queries if the Twenty-Fifth-Bam is still alive, and to his surprise, she replies that he is indeed alive. At the start of the episode, we were shown a pod-like structure labeled “EMILE,” suggesting a machine or advanced computer. However, the true identity of this seemingly helpful AI with extensive information access turns out to be a young woman attached to some sort of pod via an unusual headset.

Emile, a chat robot made at Acorn Workshop, is involved in the Workshop Battle where Khun’s and Wangnan’s teams are participating. However, the series opens by hinting that there’s something dark behind its innocent appearance. A character named Traveler has an unusual fascination with Emile, thinking it’s human. Despite the lackluster animation, the storytelling device of framing the episode around Emile was effective, and it leaves viewers curious about where this storyline will lead.
