Xbox Game Pass Adds Its First Day-One Game for December 2025

You can now play Marvel Cosmic Invasion on Xbox Game Pass with various subscription options. This new fighting game, which you can also play with a friend in co-op mode, is the first game being added to the service in December 2025, and the 210th game added to Xbox Game Pass this year.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion, created by Tribute Games in Montreal, is a classic superhero beat ’em up with retro 2D graphics. You can play as 15 different heroes, including Spider-Man, Captain America, She-Hulk, Venom, Wolverine, Storm, and Rocket Raccoon. What makes this game different is its “Cosmic Swap” system – you choose two heroes for each level and can switch between them instantly, opening up new combo possibilities.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion Now Available Across 2 Xbox Game Pass Tiers

I was so excited when Marvel Cosmic Invasion finally dropped on December 1st! It’s been just over eight months since they first announced it back in March, and it’s available on PC, consoles, and, even better, through Xbox Game Pass! As an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, I could jump right in. It’s actually the 69th game to be added to Game Pass on day one this year, and the first for December. They technically showed it off as part of the November lineup, but we’re expecting another wave of December games to be announced later this week – probably on December 2nd, if Microsoft follows their usual schedule.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion Possibly Coming to Xbox Game Pass Premium Tier in 2026

Since September 2024, Microsoft has released new games on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass right away. Games on the standard (now Premium) tier usually become available 6 to 12 months later. Microsoft promised that games published by Xbox will arrive on the Premium tier within a year of release. However, since Marvel Cosmic Invasion is published by a different company, it’s unclear when it will be added. If it stays on the service for at least a year, it could become available on the $14.99-per-month Premium tier as soon as mid-2026.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion Is Another Win for Xbox Game Pass Co-Op Catalog

Currently, Marvel Cosmic Invasion is adding to the already great collection of cooperative games available with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. You can play it by yourself, or team up with up to three friends either on the same couch or online. Players can easily join and leave the game whenever they want. First looks at the game suggest that playing with others is a major highlight – along with its fun, retro style – and that the co-op mode really captures the fast-paced, energetic feel of classic beat ’em up games.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers should mark December 2nd on their calendars. That’s when Lost Records: Bloom & Rage will be added, and we’ll probably find out about all the other games coming to the service that month. We already know Routine will launch on December 4th, and Dome Keeper and A Game About Digging A Hole are set to arrive on December 9th. Based on past years, Microsoft might announce all of December’s games at once, and then go back to revealing games in two separate announcements starting in January 2026.
