Summary
- Mastered Ultra Instinct is Goku’s strongest form, offering unbeatable defense and powerful offense.
- Vegeta’s Ultra Ego, fueled by damage, has impressive offensive power and potential for mastery.
- A fight between Mastered Ultra Instinct and Mastered Ultra Ego could be evenly matched in strength.
In the animated series Dragon Ball Super, the power level within the franchise has soared to unprecedented heights. As new elements like Gods, Angels, and the idea of multiple universes are introduced, stronger characters keep joining, compelling our heroes to tap into unimaginable power reserves, preventing these formidable forces from causing excessive chaos and destruction.
To achieve such immense power, Goku and Vegeta have each activated Divine Transformations that draw upon the techniques of the Angels and Destroyer Gods from the Dragon Ball universe. However, there’s much debate about their relative strength when they face off against one another. Let’s delve into a hypothetical battle between Mastered Ultra Instinct and Mastered Ultra Ego instead.
In this scenario, we imagine a clash between these two highly mastered states of power, each representing the pinnacle of their respective characters’ growth. The outcome would depend on various factors such as strategy, timing, and the unique abilities that define Goku and Vegeta’s fighting styles. This thought exercise allows us to explore what such a battle might entail and appreciate the depth of these iconic characters.
The Case For Mastered Ultra Instinct
How Goku Would Win This Engagement
First Appearance | Dragon Ball Super, Episode 129, “A Transcendent Limit Break! Autonomous Ultra Instinct Mastered!” |
---|---|
Story Arc | Tournament of Power Arc |
In the Tournament of Power, Goku’s most potent Divine Transformation appeared more elusive than one might think. Initially, he activated an imperfect form of this power, which boasted strong defense but fell short in offense and drained Ki excessively, making it unsustainable. However, towards the end of the tournament, Goku finally mastered this form, making it far more balanced and effective.
In subsequent storylines, Whis clarified that while Ultra Instinct represents the pinnacle of martial arts skill, its precision can differ among users. Consequently, Goku has been diligently striving for perfection in this technique, significantly improving it during the Moro arc and employing a more finely-tuned ‘True’ version in the Granolah arc, treating it as a skill rather than a transformation. This enhanced form proved effective against Gas, but when sparring with Beast Gohan, he resorted back to his Mastered Ultra Instinct state.
Currently, it’s generally thought that this is the most powerful manifestation of Ultra Instinct for Goku. It boasts the highest defense in the series thanks to its self-regulating movements, and its offensive capabilities are astonishing, making Goku stronger and faster than we’ve ever seen. Additionally, this form increases his durability significantly; his muscles stiffen to such an extent that opponents can fracture their hands upon striking him.
From my perspective as an onlooker, it seems that Goku’s Mastered Ultra Instinct would prevail over Vegeta’s form primarily due to familiarity and accumulated experience. Over an extended period, Goku has been honing his skills in Ultra Instinct, allowing him to sustain the state for longer durations and employ it more proficiently. Moreover, Ultra Instinct uniquely shields its user from any harm, ensuring they remain unscathed throughout, unlike Ultra Ego which necessitates taking damage to grow stronger – a strategy that eventually proves unsustainable.
The Case For Mastered Ultra Ego
How Vegeta Would Win This Engagement
First Appearance | Dragon Ball Super, Chapter 74, “Vegeta vs. Granolah” |
---|---|
Story Arc | Granolah Saga |
Instead, there’s Vegeta’s Ultra Ego form, stemming from the innate ability of the Gods of Destruction. After falling short in attaining the legendary Ultra Instinct state during and post the Tournament of Power, Vegeta recognized that his combat style and character didn’t align with a technique requiring complete thought suppression to execute. Consequently, he endeavored to achieve equal power using his unique approach.
Here, Beerus explained the destructive mode that the Gods of Destruction employ, and then started teaching Vegeta how to wield the Hakai ability, which can obliterate objects ranging from pebbles to entire planets. Eventually, Vegeta mastered this technique and employed it during his Divine Transformation, a power level equivalent to that of a God of Destruction. Thus, Ultra Ego was first seen battling Granolah.
Damage is nothing but fuel for me. Do you know what that means? I’m only getting stronger!
Unlike Goku’s Mastered Ultra Instinct, Vegeta’s Ultra Ego was far from perfect, as he had only utilized it once against Granolah. Yet, despite this limited experience, many contend that Vegeta performed better than Goku did with his Ultra Instinct. This is due to the fact that Goku underestimated Granolah’s true speed after fighting a clone, whereas Ultra Ego Vegeta compelled Granolah to use all of his power, which threatened their lives.
In their present condition, Goku with Mastered Ultra Instinct would probably overpower Vegeta’s standard Ultra Ego form. But if both forms are mastered, it could become more complex. Vegeta’s regular Ultra Ego form seemed to hold its own against the same opponent, suggesting the immense power of this state. A Mastered Ultra Ego would likely be even stronger and might address its weaknesses, such as fortifying Vegeta’s body like Ultra Instinct does, thereby reducing damage impact on him. However, it’s most plausible that Mastered Ultra Instinct and Mastered Ultra Ego would be equally matched.
