When discussing manga, One Piece is widely considered the best of all time. It’s the best-selling manga globally, far surpassing any other series. The manga itself is consistently excellent in both quality and storytelling over its impressive 28-year run. However, the anime adaptation hasn’t reached the same level of success.
The One Piece anime is generally good, but it doesn’t quite live up to the high quality the series deserves. Historically, it’s suffered from poor pacing and animation, although recent years have seen improvement. Many fans believe One Piece needs a fresh, updated anime adaptation, and that’s exactly what Wit Studio is delivering. Officially titled ‘The One Piece,’ this new project is in development, and recent announcements have generated a lot of excitement among fans.
Wit Studio’s One Piece Anime Reveals New Art
Wit Studio’s adaptation of One Piece was first announced in December 2023, but not much information has been shared since then. While there was a small update at Jump Festa last year, the project appeared to still be in its early stages of development.
Fans haven’t received any updates on this One Piece anime project for a while, causing some confusion. Recently, though, new artwork has been released, and it appears to be based on the Orangetown arc – one of the first storylines in the series.
Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, told director Masashi Koizuka to take inspiration from the source material, understand it deeply, and then reimagine it with his own unique vision.
I’m so hyped! These early art reveals are a huge sign that we’re about to get a ton more details on Wit Studio’s One Piece adaptation. As we all know, Jump Festa is just around the corner, and that’s where they’re almost guaranteed to drop some major news about this anime – it’s going to be massive, and I can’t wait!
Wit Studio’s One Piece Anime Is In Production Already
As a huge One Piece fan, I’m so excited about Wit Studio taking on the anime! From what I’ve gathered, they’ve been working on it for about a year now, which is fantastic. Everything points to a really solid production schedule, and knowing they’re starting with the East Blue Saga, I’m confident we’re going to get a truly high-quality adaptation. I can’t wait!
The previously released concept art for this anime was fantastic, and now it looks like we’re getting a glimpse of visuals from different story arcs – including Orangetown and potentially the rest of the East Blue Saga. Fans are incredibly excited to see what’s coming!
With the anime in production for roughly a year, fans are eagerly anticipating a reveal – possibly a teaser or even a full trailer – at Jump Festa this December.
One Piece Will Get An Adaptation That It Deserves
Image by Toei Animation For a long time, viewers have noticed that the One Piece anime hasn’t kept pace with newer shows. Series like Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer have become more popular and visually impressive. While Toei Animation does put in effort and occasionally creates truly amazing episodes, One Piece generally lags behind modern anime production.
As a child, I dreamed of creating a manga with an incredibly thrilling finale. Now, after 25 years of building towards this moment – we’re nearing the end of the Wano Country arc and everything is set. You can jump in now and still enjoy the story! From here on out, this is truly ONE PIECE! I’ll finally reveal all the mysteries I’ve been holding back, and it’s going to be a wild ride. Buckle up! Thank you for your continued support – I hope you’ll stick with me a little longer. — Eiichiro Oda, One Piece
Unfortunately, the anime’s pacing is stuck closely following the manga, and there’s no fixing the animation problems in earlier episodes. They’re limited in what they can improve at this point.
While Toei Animation’s version of One Piece has its strengths, many believe Wit Studio’s upcoming adaptation will be a more faithful and deserving portrayal of Eiichiro Oda’s incredible manga.
Eiichiro Oda’s popular manga, One Piece, follows Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, as they search for the legendary treasure, the One Piece. The story is currently in its final arc. The newest chapter, 1168, will be released in this week’s Weekly Shonen Jump on December 7, 2025. In Japan, it will be available at midnight on Monday (11:00 AM EST / 8:00 AM PT). Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app, which helps support the author.
