I’ve been watching Solo Leveling, and it’s clear the story really revolves around Sung Jinwoo – he’s the main character, so that makes sense. But because he’s so central, other potentially great characters end up feeling a bit sidelined. They don’t get much focus, and I find myself wishing I knew more about who they are and what they can do. They mostly stay in the background, which is a shame.
Many fans of Solo Leveling have wondered what would happen if its supporting characters got their own stories. Could they handle being the main character, or would they struggle? This article explores which characters from Solo Leveling have the potential to lead their own series.
This post contains spoilers for Solo Leveling.
Cha Hae-in
Affiliation: Hunters Guild
- An elite swordsman with incredible speed
Cha Hae-in is a powerful character in Solo Leveling, ranked as an S-class Hunter. She’s known for defeating monsters that appear from the gates. While she fights with a sword, she doesn’t follow traditional techniques, preferring inventive and unpredictable methods that surprise her opponents. She’s also incredibly strong and fast, with a remarkable speed that allows her to quickly overwhelm enemies.
Cha Hae-in has all the makings of a fantastic main character – she’s both strong and genuinely kind. Unlike many Hunters who are arrogant, she treats everyone with respect. She’s also incredibly thorough and always gives her best effort to every task. Plus, she’s a dedicated worker who constantly strives to improve. These qualities combined make her a truly compelling protagonist.
Thomas Andre
Affiliation: Scavenger Guild
- The strongest Hunter in America with an interesting upbringing
In the world of Solo Leveling, Thomas Andre is considered the most powerful Hunter at the national level. He gained incredible strength from a piece of the Ruler’s power. With the help of the Rulers, Thomas Andre fought with a team of top Hunters to defeat the evil Kamish and prevent humanity’s destruction. After their win, Thomas Andre and his companions became famous worldwide and received special recognition for their abilities.
Thomas Andre wasn’t always famous. He grew up poor in a tough environment where he learned to prioritize strength. This difficult childhood shaped him into a proud and sometimes aggressive adult. While he’s clearly a complex character with flaws, that’s actually what makes him so interesting. He’d be perfect for leading a new show, as his controversial actions would spark debate and keep viewers engaged.
Sung Il-Hwan
Affiliation: The Rulers
- A spinoff covering his adventures as a Hunter would be incredible
Sung Il-Hwan was Jinwoo and Jinah’s father. Everyone believed he died after being trapped in a dungeon, but powerful beings known as the Rulers brought him back. However, he had to agree to work for them in return. They granted him a portion of their power, making him a formidable opponent.
I always felt Sung Il-Hwan was a really interesting character in Solo Leveling, but we didn’t get to see enough of him. I think a spin-off story focusing on his life would be fantastic. It could explore his backstory, even show us how he first met Jinwoo’s mother. Plus, it would be amazing to finally learn how he ended up trapped in that dungeon and what his experience was like while he was in there.
Go Gunghee
Affiliation: Korean Hunters Association
- Spinoff covering his short but incredible stint as a Hunter
Go Gunghee was Korea’s first Hunter to reach S-rank, earning him widespread respect. Unfortunately, his physical health wasn’t strong enough for him to continue actively hunting for long, so he transitioned into an administrative role instead.
Gunghee felt underutilized as a supporting character, but he definitely has the potential for his own story. It could explore his life as a Hunter before he retired, and even detail the challenges he faced, like the consequences of overusing his abilities.
Choi Jong-In
Affiliation: Hunters Guild
Solo Leveling Animation Partners - The best mage-type Hunter deserves his own series
Choi Jong-In leads the Hunters Guild in Korea and manages a large team, including Cha Hae-In. Unlike most characters in Solo Leveling, he remains calm and resourceful even in stressful situations, second only to Sung Jinwoo in his ability to handle pressure and find solutions.
Choi Jong-In is not only incredibly intelligent, but also exceptionally powerful – widely considered the most skilled mage in Korea. His spells are devastating, capable of quickly destroying most creatures. Despite his abilities, he’s been relegated to a supporting role, but he has the potential to carry his own story as the main character.
