Naruto stands out as an anime with a truly great group of characters. Created by Masashi Kishimoto, they’re captivating for viewers. However, having so many well-developed characters also means some don’t get as much focus as fans might like.
It’s understandable why fans wish they could see more of their favorite characters take center stage. Since we can only speculate about what that might look like, let’s consider some Naruto characters who would be perfect leads in their own spin-off series.
This post contains spoilers for Naruto.
Hashirama Senju
Affiliation: Hidden Leaf Village
- Kekkei Genkai: Wood Release
Hashirama Senju was the first leader of the Hidden Leaf Village, and he helped build it alongside Madara Uchiha. Because the story of Naruto takes place long after Hashirama’s death, many details about his life remain a mystery, including how he died, how he met his wife Mito, and how he coped with the loss of his loved ones.
The series could also explore Hashirama’s incredible power. As one of the most powerful ninjas ever – and one of only two called the “God of Shinobi” – it would be interesting to see how he became so strong. This could include details about how he learned the Wood Release technique and mastered Sage Mode.
Minato Namikaze
Affiliation: Hidden Leaf Village
- Kekkei Genkai: None
Minato Namikaze is often considered the fastest ninja ever. He achieved this incredible speed through the Flying Thunder God technique, originally created by Tobirama but mastered by Minato, who earned the nickname ‘Yellow Flash’. At his strongest, Minato was so powerful that other ninja nations instructed their forces to retreat immediately if they encountered him.
Minato is a fascinating character with a rich backstory that hasn’t been fully explored. He has all the qualities needed to carry his own story, and many fans, including myself, are hoping Masashi Kishimoto will eventually write a prequel that delves into his life in detail.
Kakashi Hatake
Affiliation: Hidden Leaf Village
- Kekkei Genkai: Sharingan
Kakashi Hatake is a hugely popular character in Naruto, captivating fans with his funny and endearing personality. From the moment he appeared, he’s become one of the most iconic figures in the series, and many Naruto fans would welcome a spin-off series focused on him.
I’d absolutely love to see a series diving into Kakashi’s past! Imagine exploring his childhood and, even more excitingly, really getting to know his father, Sakumo Hatake. It would be incredible to finally see Sakumo’s full power and understand how he earned his legendary reputation. And, of course, a detailed look at Kakashi’s time at the Academy, especially his intense rivalry with Might Guy, would be amazing!
Jiraiya
Affiliation: Hidden Leaf Village
- Kekkei Genkai: None
I’ve always known Jiraiya as one of Konoha’s Legendary Sannin – a truly powerful ninja who contributed to many of the village’s wins. But what really stood out about him wasn’t just his strength, but how much he dedicated himself to teaching others. He trained some incredibly important figures, including Minato Namikaze, Nagato Uzumaki, and, of course, Naruto Uzumaki.
Many fans would love a story centered entirely around Jiraiya. It would be fascinating to learn more about his past, especially his early struggles when people underestimated him. We could also see his complex friendship with Orochimaru explored in detail, and discover more about his many adventures and missions – he’s completed more official missions than any other ninja!
Itachi Uchiha
Affiliation: Hidden Leaf Village, Akatsuki
- Kekkei Genkai: Sharingan
Itachi was incredibly talented, considered a prodigy within the Uchiha Clan, and was highly respected by his family and peers. Despite receiving constant praise, he stayed modest and consistently avoided conflict whenever possible.
Itachi is a fan-favorite character in Naruto, and many would love to see a series focused on his story. A new manga could explore how witnessing so much violence shaped his perspective. It could also delve into his relationships with friends and allies outside his family, such as Shisui, Kakashi, and Izumi. Finally, the series could show what it was like for Itachi when he first joined the Akatsuki.
Neji Hyuuga
Affiliation: Hidden Leaf Village
- Kekkei Genkai: Byakugan
Neji Hyuuga is often cited as a character who deserved a better ending. He made a strong impression when he first appeared, and played a significant role in the early parts of the series, particularly during the Chunin Exams. However, his importance diminished considerably as Naruto Shippuden progressed.
Neji was a brilliant character who, unfortunately, wasn’t utilized to his full potential by the creator and was killed off in an unsatisfying way. Because of this, he deserves his own series – one that could delve into his backstory and show how meeting Naruto fundamentally changed his beliefs.
Might Guy
Affiliation: Hidden Leaf Village
- Kekkei Genkai: None
While Might Guy isn’t known for his appearance, he’s definitely one of the most fun characters to watch in Naruto. He’s incredibly skilled in hand-to-hand combat, mastering the difficult Eight Gates technique and even being able to fight on equal footing with Kakashi Hatake.
Honestly, Might Guy is such an amazing character, but the original Naruto series had so many people that he just didn’t get the spotlight he deserved! I really think a spin-off series focusing on him would be incredible – it would finally give him the chance to really shine.
