As a long-time devotee of Azeroth’s mystical tapestry, I find myself both elated and a tad dismayed by the impending transformation of our beloved Shaman Ascendance forms in World of Warcraft: The War Within.

For the first time in more than a decade, the Shaman Ascendance forms in World of Warcraft are getting an overhaul. This long-awaited visual makeover will be introduced with World of Warcraft Patch 11.0.5, coinciding with the MMO’s 20th-anniversary update.

Lately, World of Warcraft unveiled Patch 11.0.5, marking the initial major post-release update for The War Within. Apart from a grand in-game commemoration to celebrate the game’s 20-year milestone, this update also brings numerous gameplay enhancements. Among these improvements is an expansion of the World of Warcraft classes that Dracthyr can select.

In the recent Patch 11.0.5 update of World of Warcraft, there’s an aspect that Shaman players should take note of. This update is revamping the Ascendance forms utilized by each Shaman specialization, resulting in a fresh appearance for all. In essence, it seems there will be six new Ascendance forms in total: Fire for Elemental Shamans, Water for Restoration, and Air for Enhancement, with variants for both Body Type 1 and 2.

New Shaman Ascendance Forms in WoW: The War Within

The Shaman class’s Ascendance abilities were initially introduced in the expansion “Mists of Pandaria,” yet their forms were originally based on foes found in “Cataclysm.” This means that Ascendance is 12 years old, and the designs for the Elemental Ascendant models are actually over 14 years old. Since then, every playable race in “World of Warcraft” has undergone a visual upgrade, making these older models appear particularly outdated compared to them. It’s safe to say that they were long overdue for a makeover.

A multitude of gamers are enthralled with the latest Shaman Ascendance shapeshifts. It’s hard to argue that they aren’t superior, given their vintage counterparts. The new transformations retain the overall outline of the old versions but align more closely with the art style that World of Warcraft has embraced throughout the last ten years. Many enthusiasts were pleasantly surprised to discover these revamped forms seemingly appearing unexpectedly.

It appears that some enthusiasts are expressing dissatisfaction towards the recent transformations. They find these updates less appealing compared to the original versions, particularly missing the distinctive cowls that were characteristic of earlier models. Other fans had hoped Blizzard would take a different approach in design, like the Shaman summoning an elemental around them, reminiscent of Dathea, Ascended from the Vault of the Incarnates. Ideally, World of Warcraft may introduce Glyphs in the future that allow players to select between the old and new forms, or even better, enable users to customize their class’ visual aspects much like Druids and Warlocks do at the barber shop.
