So far this year, EA has closed down online support for 23 of its games. For the past two decades, most EA games have included some kind of online feature, and many heavily relied on it. When EA shuts down these servers, it essentially makes those games unplayable.
While fans have managed to keep some older EA games alive, many others are now permanently gone. In the last year alone, EA has shut down servers for a total of 23 games. Some of these closures were more impactful than others, but it’s always disappointing to see a game disappear.
In 2025, EA quickly began shutting down several of its games. Rory McIlroy PGA Tour was taken offline on January 16th, followed by The Simpsons: Tapped Out on January 24th. EA also shut down seven mobile games on January 29th, but the end of The Simpsons: Tapped Out was one of the most significant closures of the year. Tapped Out allowed players to create and manage their own version of Springfield, and despite criticism for its in-game purchases, it maintained a loyal player base for over ten years. When EA announced the shutdown, fans created petitions and asked for an offline version of the game, but their requests weren’t met. Fortunately, some players have been able to use fan-made servers to restore their cities and continue playing.

After a wave of game closures at EA in January 2025, things calmed down. UFC 3 was taken offline on February 17th, and EA Sports UFC Mobile 2 and NCAA 14 followed on March 13th. The closure of NCAA Football 14 was particularly disappointing as it was the final NCAA game from EA to offer online multiplayer, though the College Football series did offer some alternatives.
More online games were taken offline in June, starting with Madden NFL 21. EA then significantly increased the number of shutdowns in October and November. October saw NHL 21, Need for Speed: Rivals, Madden NFL 22, and FIFA 23 go offline – FIFA 23 being the last EA game with that name. On November 8th, four racing titles – Dirt Showdown, Dirt 3, Grid Autosport, and Grid 2 – were shut down, and the month ended with EA Sports FC Empires being taken offline on November 30th.

The final EA game to shut down in 2025 was Grid (2019) on December 19th. While the year isn’t over, it’s unlikely EA will unexpectedly shut down another game before then. We already know at least four EA games will close in 2026: Anthem on January 12th, The Sims Mobile on January 24th, NBA Live 19 on January 30th, and Real Racing 3 on March 19th. Given the number of shutdowns in 2025, fans can expect even more EA games to be discontinued in 2026, so it’s a good idea to watch for further announcements.
