Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently shrouded in mystery. While four movies are officially planned, many more are potentially slated for release in 2028. This phase will heavily feature Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., and his impact, leaving opportunities for future films to be set within the same timeline.
Here’s a list of all the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies confirmed for Phase 6, including their release dates. We’ve also included details on movies that are currently rumored and could potentially be added to Phase 6 within the next two to three years.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps
The Fantastic Four Debuted in the MCU on July 24, 2025
- Directed by: Matt Shakman
- Release Date: July 24, 2025
The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Phase 6 began with the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps on July 24, 2025. The film introduces the iconic family – Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm – and their extraordinary abilities as they work together to protect Earth from the devastating threat of Galactus, a being who consumes planets.
Although The Fantastic Four: First Steps doesn’t significantly build towards the future of the Fantastic Four within the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, its post-credits scene connects directly to Avengers: Doomsday. This connection is hinted at in the final movie of MCU Phase 5, Thunderbolts / New Avengers, which shows the Fantastic Four’s ship traveling to Earth-616.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Spider-Man Returns to the MCU on July 31, 2026
- Directed by: Destin Daniel Cretton
- Release Date: July 31, 2026
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the fourth movie featuring Tom Holland as Spider-Man, and it continues his story within the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to a collaboration between Sony and Disney. After being absent from the MCU for four years, this film will mark nearly five years since Spider-Man last appeared on the big screen.
Very little is known about the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie. With Tom Holland’s involvement in Avengers: Doomsday still unconfirmed, this film could reveal what Spider-Man is doing during those events and what his future holds. As a standalone movie, audiences can anticipate a thrilling adventure with a fresh approach from director Destin Daniel Cretton. The inclusion of The Punisher and The Hulk promises to be particularly exciting.
Avengers: Doomsday
The Avengers and the X-Men Unite on December 18, 2026
- Directed by: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo
- Release Date: December 18, 2026
The new movie, Avengers: Doomsday, features a huge cast, bringing back many familiar faces from previous Marvel films. Beloved actors like Patrick Stewart (as Professor Xavier) and James Marsden (as Cyclops) will reprise their roles, and fans will be excited to see Chris Evans return as Steve Rogers. Interestingly, Robert Downey Jr. will play Doctor Doom in this film, a departure from his iconic role as Tony Stark.
Currently, details about Avengers: Doomsday, a new Marvel Cinematic Universe film planned for Phase 6, are scarce. We only know a portion of the actors involved and that it’s scheduled to be released on December 18, 2026. Beyond that, everything is guesswork, but it promises to be a fantastic experience for fans of the Avengers, the X-Men, and everyone working on the project.
Avengers: Secret Wars
The 40th MCU Movie Releases on December 17, 2027
- Directed by: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo
- Release Date: December 17, 2027
Scheduled to come out a year after Avengers: Doomsday, Avengers: Secret Wars will be the 40th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the sixth Avengers film. It’s expected to be the epic finale of the Multiverse Saga, promising even more unexpected twists than its predecessor.
We currently know nothing about the plot or characters in Avengers: Secret Wars. However, if the movie follows the storyline of the comics, it could lead to a fresh start for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, potentially beginning a new Phase 1 with Phase 7.
Okay, so I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about potential future Marvel movies, but honestly, most of it seems like pure guesswork. Just wanted to be clear – these are just rumors floating around, and Marvel hasn’t officially announced anything about them yet. Don’t get too excited until we hear it straight from the source!
Black Panther 3
Ryan Coogler’s Final Part of the Trilogy Could Release in 2028
- Directed by: Ryan Coogler
- Release Date: TBC
Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was his second film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it respectfully addressed the passing of Chadwick Boseman, who played King T’Challa. Though released in 2022, Coogler is already working on Black Panther 3, with plans to include a role for Denzel Washington.
Marvel Studios has three movies planned for 2028, and a third Black Panther film is a strong possibility. It’s unclear if the story will follow Shuri as the new Black Panther, or if they’ll explore the multiverse to bring back a different version of T’Challa. However, with Ryan Coogler directing, it’s likely to be a spectacular movie.
X-Men
The MCU’s All-New X-Men Team Could Debut in 2028, from Jake Schreier
- Directed by: Jake Schreier
- Release Date: TBC
There’s a lot of buzz about when the X-Men will officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although we might see familiar faces like Wolverine and Deadpool – played by Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, respectively – return in upcoming movies like Deadpool & Wolverine, and potentially even classic X-Men in Avengers: Doomsday with updated costumes, it’s more probable that the MCU will introduce its own version of the X-Men team with a new cast of mutant characters.
It’s now official: the X-Men are coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Phase 7 planned to focus on a ‘Mutants Saga.’ But will we see any X-Men content before then? Jake Schreier, who’s directing the Thunderbolts movie, is reportedly working on a new film, and a recent trademark filing for a Wolverine movie suggests that mutants could appear in the MCU before 2028.
Blade
Mahershala Ali’s Blade Could Release in 2028, Beyond, or Never
- Directed by: TBC
- Release Date: TBC
Marvel announced a Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali back in 2019, but the project has faced numerous script changes and delays. As a result, it’s still unclear when – or even if – the movie will actually be released.

Let’s hope Marvel is making good progress on the Blade script and that Ali is pleased with it. The Blade character deserves a fantastic movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, particularly if it’s planned for release in 2028 as part of the final stories in Phase 6.
Spider-Man 5
Spider-Man’s 2nd Trilogy Could Continue As Early as 2028
- Directed by: TBC
- Release Date: TBC
Although Spider-Man: Brand New Day isn’t out yet, if production stays on track, we might see the next Spider-Man movie around 2028. The previous three Spider-Man films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home – were released every two years between 2017 and 2021, so a similar timeline is possible.
Now that five years have passed since Spider-Man: No Way Home and Tom Holland has returned from his break, it’s highly probable that work on Spider-Man 5 is already underway. Sony and Disney are likely developing story ideas and beginning early planning to aim for a 2028 release.
